Watson aint a bad option provided hes not on the same kinda money he got at the knights. He is absolutely damaging off the bench for a hapless knights team. Reports that he wants be a starter however would be way off the mark in coming to us.

I assume with a few theories floating around that he would be our mr utility on the bench for that floating middle / lock position.

- Theory number 1 is Tracey will be left centre next season, (or groomed to be)
- Theory number 2 is Trindall is indeed a halfback. So will be there or the deputy behind ??? who knows.

Theory #3 Fitz thinks McInnes will be our starting 9 so he wants a ballplaying mobile 13

...
Theory #4 he just wants to get a good mobile versatile player while he is available and will figure the rest out later

Personally unless we go theory #1 I don't love it as I don't love a Hynes/Watson combo and think Will and Blayke both should be good enough to hold their jobs and competition for them should be wily vets on cheap or young prospects

Honestly can see a Hynes and Trindall combo next year, not horrible but a bit green, we definitely need to see Trindall play in the halves more this year.

Oh **** no, please no.

I was also of this opinion a little while ago but I thought our season was pretty much done.

All of a sudden we've won four in a row and sitting in the 8. The only way he comes in now is through injury I reckon.

Well the point is if those rumours align it frees up a bench utility role as both Tracey and Trindall are mooted for centre and halfback (or backup)
So if that's the case Im pretty open to Watson as our bench man.

Brailey and McInnis will need spells and that solves it.

There's nothing about that combo that says Top 4. And I refuse to accept Fitz would think so. I'm on the hype train now, and this would be a big rock on the tracks

Dont really think Watson is the answer for us. He hasn’t really excelled in any spot apart from a utility. He’s a good fill in for the halves or fullback, but not really one to command the spot in the team. We’ve already got one of those in Tracey.

In your head, rent free
this is why you dont listen to the mole - he claims we are trying a player swap with the cows for chad, riccio claims we are days away from releasing him to the warriors

Do we?
I agree from a fan standpoint it would be nice to get a better idea, and even from a 'development' standpoint it could be beneficial (but we are not at a development point of the season).
But the dude has played in 13 NRL games and counting and will have a full preseason under Fitz and trials before season starts, plenty more than a lot of players have before seasons where they become regular starters.
There is a very real timeline he plays out the rest of this year on the bench, even with Chad coming back in at some stage, and then Fitz still considers him for #7 next year alongside Hynes next season.
The feeling that we want to see more of Trindall to know how much confidence to have in him, which I fully understand, is not the same reality that Hannay and Fitz are in, even without playing him more in the halves this year they have way more information than us.

While I think there is every chance Watson ends up somewhere as a 14 I'm keeping in mind the fact he supposedly wants a start, or at least an option where he looks a chance to start. I think Watson is a very good 14.

Agreed, although in a Roosters style play I can see it working a lot better, and that would be McInnes doing a very good (but more disciplined) Radley impersonation and Hynes/Trindall playing off of the 13.

Fantasy world mate... I mean, where would we even start to get playing like the Roosters?

free salary and never having to see him in a sharks jersey again

Yep. Thanks.
I get that but we will also need to replace his spot in the top 30, so I hope we are playing hardball and get a player of interest (if there is one) in return.
The Warriors need him more than we need the cap space now so we might as well squeeze a favourable trade for ourselves out of it.

I’d prefer to give that extra spot to a player who we had intent to bring in to the top squad for next season, as he’d be on or some where around the min wage there would be other money left to top up someone else we may want to extend, use that as an enticement?
