If he medically retires it is paid out (by insurance?) outside of cap.
If he regular retires, or retires because his body is ****ed then that's on him, no money*... unless he Fifita's it and refuses and just drags his corpse around for the paycheque, trying what he can to get suspended.
With any luck he'd be more like Merrin who retired and decline rest of his contract to be paid out.

*we could negotiate something with him to get him to retire for partial money.

I know it's outside the Cap ( Medically Retired ) but are you 100% sure that the club has takes out that insurance for multiple highly paid stars ?
I think the Rabbits paid out of their own pockets for Burgess and Inglis

“As part of Brisbane’s pitch, Reynolds will be offered one of the most prestigious roles in the code, the Broncos captaincy, with current skipper Alex Glenn expected to retire at season’s end.”

Hahaha.

Yeah I got a chuckle out of that as well haha.

No, hence the question mark. Inglis was not a medical retirement.

Don't get me wrong , I don't want to see us pay 2 MIL for 2 years
But , the way I see it if that secured his signature , we could save in year 3 .
Keep him at unders if his form is falling off , pay him similar if he's still ripping it apart , look at another player altogether .
Two years locked in with a gun half and club recruitment flexibility year 3 feels reasonable .
Beats playing him perhaps 2.7 MIL or more for three years to beat Broncos bid
OR worse dud halves for a couple of years

We save in year 3 in your plan because he is not contracted to us. If anything your third line then suggests we save in year three because his form has dropped off, otherwise if he is 'still ripping it apart' we pay him similar, which is the opposite of 'saving in year 3' because now we've paid 3 million total instead of 2.4.

Even if his form falls way off and we pay him half that still 2.5, which is more than the total of 3x800k. But yes, technically saving in year three.

Your plan deals better with worst case scenario (he's worth **** all by year three) but if he is half decent or better still it probably hurts us. He'd have to agree to sign for as low as 400k in the last year to be back to level, and if he is still playing well he probably wouldn't want a 600k/60% pay cut.

I get what your saying Bort .
But the way it's playing out , I really doubt we'll get him for 2.4 MIL ( 3 years ) with Broncos upping the ante
2.7 MIL may be more like it .
So , 2 MIL for 2 years could work out best for the Club IF we want him here.

Ponga said today not leaving
DCE very unlikely to go to Brisbane too
They are getting DESPERATE ( Especially Kevvie )
To leave us or them feeding off the scraps

What's your MAXIMUM price for 2 or 3 years ?
AND forum Chad whilst we are at it

I wouldn't pay much for forum Chad, maybe a half eaten chiko roll and chocolate moove.

We are the Sydney club and he doesn’t wanna move. Up to them to beat our offer not the other way around.
800k for three years is probably the most I’d be willing to offer. If he wants more cash then 900k for two years, not willing to go full million.
Ideally 3x 700k but cowboys paying 800 for Chad has blown the market out.

If we miss makes SJ a much higher priority target but also is another suitor off the board. Every bit we save on Reynolds makes SJ more retainable though too
