I don't know why there isn't more interest in someone like Michael Ennis as Head Coach. Yes, he hasn't coached before but he's seen it all from his playing days. We also know that he's very intelligent. Just listening to his comments on the TV, it's also obvious that he can interpret the game at a very high level.
The biggest question is whether Ennis has the desire to coach. If he has it then I think that he would be very good. In fact you look at his career and he has been a pretty consistent success. Even the switch to TV commentator in front of the camera was done with a minimum of fuss.
Michael Ennis is a Cronulla legend because of his contribution as hooker of the 2016 champion team. He added the methodical discipline and professionalism (along with Maloney) that was previously missing. I think that he warrants serious consideration if he's interested.

Love Ennis but needs some experience before jumping into the hotseat.
yeah. You have the flanno mindset. No good till they are 30 or 50 as a coach. If they are good enough they are old enough.

Not too hard to obtain based on what I have been able to find. See https://playnrl.com/media/2371/coach-accreditation-guide-2017-final.pdf. I don't think it has changed much and seems to apply to all levels. I would assume the NRL would also have Governance courses.

There are a number of sports related courses that can be done at uni/college but don't think any of these are essential or prerequisites as none give you actual experience.

I understand ME seems intelligent and has assisted with some minor coaching related to Hooker position and he knows our systems but Head Coach is much more different. As an ex NRL player he would have picked up many tips from the various coaches he had during his career and apply/modify these in developing his method but NRL clubs are professional businesses with pressures from supporters to perform well and unlikely to punt on an inexperienced coach still developing and testing their methods which is generally done as coach in lower grade (results required) or as an assistant to Head Coach.

As much as I like ME, I don't think he is the right person in the current climate to be taking a punt on, and would be low on the list. JM fits the bill perfectly and my choice.

Fan expectations based on past few seasons and our roster (assuming we haven't "shat ourselves and dropped our bundle" over the scandals), are we make top 8 at least, anything more is a bonus and in the lap of the footy gods.
J Mo is a nice bloke but would be a doormat. He has not got the kahunas to make it as a coach.

He didn’t say anything about his age. He took issue with the fact that apart from helping out the Brailey boys maybe a couple of times a week, Ennis has no coaching experience whatsoever. No youth team experience, no time as an assistant. You can’t just toss someone with zero experience into a head coaching role at a club that’s expecting to challenge for the premiership next year. I know you fancy yourself as an “old school” kinda guy Paul, but in the modern game, in 2019, that’s just not how it works. Plus it wouldn’t be fair to Mick.
Besides, Micks got a good thing going with his media gigs. He probably wouldn’t give that up for the stressful environment that is head coaching, why would he?

Oh and Paul, fix up your quoting game bud. ;)

Lewis names him (Ennis) as in the top 6 (knowledgeable ) Influential players he has played with. Its a great Idea to put forward, but he has picked up too much work already, to easily, in the media. I would love to see it, but wont happen. Also not a big believer in coaches Coaching ex team-mates, but I think he could be an exception.

Ennis stated the reason why he finished up was due to family, sick of the travelling and training and the time away, he won't be a coach anytime soon as this would mean just as much time.

Thx for feedback. If he doesn't want to coach, then that's it. However, he's such a straight shooter in communicating that I think he could be very good if he ever gave it a go.

I do need some quoting lessons and I think its unlikely that Ennis would want to coach now, but I think he could. The Head coach needs a few skills as I see it headed by judgement of players to allow him to assemble the best squad/team, intelligence to allow him to plan a strategy and most importantly the ability to motivate players. I think he has all those skills and could have assistants to do all the other **** that needs doing.

No substance to it, but if these rumours of Alex Glenn being on the way out are true, would you like him in our colours?

My take on the ASADA stuff was they only had a limited amount of resources to do their job so they went after their best shot, which was us, because we pretty much put our hand up and admited guilt

Basically. Their evidence wasnt very conclusive id say of they offered us the final deal we took. In the end they players essentially got a 3 game ban. If asada coukd have theyd have nailed us hard. The playersn ckub coulda dug their heels in and avoided sanction but it woulda dragged on for a long time first

Interesting about flano..

If he appeals and they slap him with a 12 month ban would you or do you think we would sign him up again for 2020 and leave Dymock/Morris in charge for 2019?

I would. Yes he was anidiot back in 2013-2014 but he has grown up a lot since then and as long as he is given set rules and boundaries within the club I would be happy to have him back at the helm in 2020.

I think perhaps the only issue then with Flanno would be, what is he doing behind the scenes that no-one knows about? Has he lost all credibility? If they put in place boundaries, like was done before during his ban, is he going to say yeah sure to following them but then blatantly disregard them the moment he is out the door.
