The hodko rumour as it stands is.....

Coming to us for 1 year.

$600,000 deal, we are paying $135,000 and the Knights the rest. Dunno how reliable this is

Not a rumour anymore. It’s been reported by a few outlets now as a done deal.

Bloody bargain- Flanno always on the lookout for a basement deal. Couldn’t really ask for better cover. Now for a set of jousting stic

He’s got two bung knees, if they hold up he’ll be good cover. Big if though. Low risk signing though due to the amount we’re paying.

If he plays as many games as Nu Brown did last year and does as good a job it will be worth the money.

Pretty much. I think people have forgotten how bad Trent was for Newcastle when he played last year. Yes he was playing in a rubbish team but when he did play his kicking game was off, his running game was non-existent and his tackling was atrocious. True he’s carrying two bad knees which played a part, but I think that’s an ongoing issue with him isn’t it? But like I said, for what we’re paying, it’s a very low risk signing. I don’t think he pushes Chad or Moylan out of the halves though. Good injury cover for a game here and there, that’s it.

How's this for a possible scenario.

Hodko plays well enough in trials to be selected ahead of Chad.

Chad cracks ****s part way through season and asks for release. (Manly perhaps).

Young Flanno takes Hodko's place in 2019.

Its an interesting pick up for us. Only coming on a 1 years deal, I reckon it should have been 2 years at least. I dont think he'll make the first team that much, I think only coming as a back up half. He's a decent player though so we got a bargain I think.

I don't see the benefit in Newy releasing him. They're footing most of the salary, so it doesn't really help their salary cap.

And if he's as broken as people have been saying on here, wouldn't it have been better for Newcastle to keep him and pocket some insurance money like what Parra did with Watmough?

Who knows, maybe the Knights had already approached the NRL about a medical retirement and got knocked back.
This at least gives them some coin back where they can further front end someone's deal and pick up salary cap space down the track.

Why would you want to give him two or more years if you don't think he'll make the first team?

My understanding is they actually paid him part of this years salary last year. So they are freeing up a place in the squad as well as a bit of cap
