$450k was what was reported when he originally signed. Articles since have suggested $500k, $550k and $600k. I reckon we can safely assume he is on less than than the $800-900k the Sharks apparently offered Jack Bird. The player should honour his contract, but you can see why his manager would be sniffing around for more coin.

simple pay Maloney $450k in 2018 if this is what he signed for then up him to $900k in 2019 and beyond. Players cannot decide to look elsewhere if they are not happy with current salary. How can a club get there salary cap right if players demand retrospectively. The club would find it difficult recruiting another 5/8th for $450k in the current market unless they had spare cash. I reckon NRL needs to step in here and stop this crap.

Exactly. This reminds me of the movie Mr.Deeds when the football player is demanding a pay rise because he is playing well. Deeds then says "well, can we pay you less if you're not playing well" to which his reply was a firm "no".
I'm not sure if the problem is the salary cap and the time frames in which players can conduct business, or if the problem is the media causing hysteria with bull**** articles about things that should be done in confidence.

Yes. This is correct. Maloney is under contract for 2018 and anything done by another club prior to Nov 2017 would be considered tampering. Fines/penalties should apply to both the club in question and the player's management.
