Got the stats from nrl.com. No idea of reliability. I think Fergo is a show pony with a bad attitude. He hasn't played consistently good club footy in a long while.

Bird more penalties and errors, and a lower tackle:missed tackle ratio....... less line breaks.
Birds got a lot of tackle busts but he is a player who spends most of his run fending. So he is able to break a tackle but often breaks one or 2 but gets tackled without making anymore metres

Imo we have to have a crack at Fergie. As far as obtainable centres go, hes number 1. Is gagai better...yes. But can we get him here without spendibg too much? No. And why should we. Thats newcastle and wests job now. People didnt wanna spend 700k on bird cos he was just a centre, then we dont do it on anyone else.

Yeah, he seems to bounce around a lot. Often without actually breaking through the line. It looks impressive but it doesn't accomplish much unless he gets the ball away or something.
