Another playing elsewhere for a premiership, richest club they said, best coach they said wanted to finish his career there fantastic club he said.

He is not worth the coin he is on, neither would I want him back on anywhere near that amount not even half.

Furphy. His numbers have been solid.

Numbers Shumbers. Every player who only cares about his numbers will only ever do enough to satisfy it.

There are things that numbers don't show. Tackles that force errors. Important runs to get you on the front foot in a set. Great reads in defence that stop gaps opening up. ACTUAL try assists opening up the opposition team, not some centre catching and passing the ball out wide as a last touch being credited.

Fantasy football congratulates you and your isolated view of the game.

No **** there are things that don't show up on the stat sheet. For instance I know that Snowden is sucker taking the tough hitups at the Knights and getting them rolling - the role we need to fill. He also hits harder than anyone in our squad bar Taga and plays with a physical presence.

One thing stats are pretty good for is disarming blind prejudice. Try it out: http://www.nrl.com/telstrapremiership/playerstats/playerprofile/tabid/10898/clubid/7/playerid/345/seasonid/43/default.aspx

Just because he left in ugly circumstances doesn't mean he's no good.

His impact and as you say tough hit ups has waned since his time here.

He rarely bends the line anymore like he used to. His physical presence and intimidation that he had with us has most certainly waned.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he left in ugly circumstances i couldn't care less about that.

Here's a question - do you want Luke Douglas back? Cause i loved the bloke - but i don't. He has also waned.

Forgetting the circumstances that he left us in, he has still been decent for the knights and i actualy agree with AB, We need another prop like him that will do the dirty work

You want to talk about a furphy?

How often do you see the forwards taking the 'sucker' hit ups to get the team rolling from their own 20?

Rarely. Because in this day and age following a kick you've got a 100kg winger followed by a 100kg centre trying to take the workload off the forwards.

Feki is just as important to us in this area of the game, bloke is tough as guts and takes 3 people to put him down before he stops making yards.

Fair enough from a scrum and the ensuing play or penalty. Even from a 20 tap you'll find a back taking the first hit up.

If you're making the call purely on your assessment of his form rather than his past then credit to you.

Look this comes down to opinion on the quality of his impact - I think its still pretty strong and you don't. That's subjective and its fine to disagree. That said, the stats in that link are pretty darn good and to my mind disarm the idea that he's been mailing it in at Newcastle - he clearly hasn't. A quick look also suggests that things like metres/hit up are pretty high too which is a reasonable indicator.

Its also why the whole thing is a moot point because he's Newy's best, most experienced prop and they won't let him go.

On Dougie - absolutely I'd take him back. A front rower that can play 80 minutes? With interchanges being cut over the next few years? Who hardly ever misses a game? With a huge workrate? A guy who players love playing with? Who is in his prime when we only have 4 forwards below the age of 30 for next year onward? Hell yes. Is he a top 10 prop? No. Doesn't mean he isn't valuable though in the same way Aidan Tolman is hugely important to the Dogs.

Fair. But I didn't say it had to be an early play. Often its the third tackle, both with us and up at Newcastle because both sides have more emphasis than most on the backs taking early hit ups as you say. That said, it still usually requires a bigger body to create some drive through the tackle and get some momentum in the set - something that I maintain that Snowden is good at and that Fifita and Gal thrive off.

I think starting prop is pretty clearly our weakest position (relative to other sides) in our 1-17 for next year. So if we want an upgrade there Snowden is just about the best option (hypothetically) on the market.
