I understand where you're both coming from but who is your answer for a halfback next year? Not stirring, serious question.
I think Nu has the vision, running game, passing game and attitude to play 7. His short kicks are pretty good, but not sure about his long kicking. Played 7 most of his junior career so he must be able to kick. His communication and organising would have to be developed but why can't they be? He has a great temperament on and off the field.

But Flanno won't do it, so if we sign Chad
7. Chad
6. Murphy/Bird/Barba/Holmes

If no Chad then play Murphy at 7.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Chad's whole junior career was at 7 right? So why not play him there if we sign him?

Plenty of faith in the unknown with all of that though.

It's no secret I'm not a fan of Sandow but I wouldn't have an issue with a 1.5 year contract at the right price. He's not exactly in demand so the right price shouldn't be too hard to achieve. It gives us another option in a very weak position for us. Also buys us some time until either someone else comes onto the market for 2017 or one of our young guys develops as hoped.

I'd rather punt on giving someone their FG opportunity than punt on Sandow. You're gonna have to put a lot of work into either option developing a rookie or managing Sandow from going full retard so go the cheaper option that won't come with as much expectation. I think we could all handle some clangers from a rookie half but will not cop a lot from a seasoned Sandow. Back ourselves to be a footy Club and produce a footy player as strange as it sounds.

100% agree but that isn't going to happen by 2016.

So? 2016 is a write-off with Sandow anyway, so not making the 8 with a rookie who'll hopefully be better for it is a much better use of our time.

Are our rookie halves even playing reserve grade yet? Big step from NYC to first grade for a kid. Too soon imo.

But every time a club develops a guy they go into the unknown, it's called backing your judgement isn't it? Admittedly Flanno doesn't seem to be able to judge a good player till well after blind Freddie has figured it out and offered him half a mill a year.

TBH I'd be very surprised if Lyall backed signing Sandow. He'll be very scandal shy I'd say.

I haven't named anyone as I'm only just keeping my head above water when it comes to the NRL these days and know very little about those outside FG, but I know Murphy is playing NSW Cup and well from all reports, as he did in QLD Cup last year.

There are 14 QLD Cup sides and 11 NSW Cup sides besides Newtown Sharks. By my calculations there should be at least 50 halves out there not playing first grade.

Mention of Will Matthews on sportal being in contract negotiations with us. Hopefully true, really solid defensive 2nd rower/Lock. Though likely false, you know, because sportal.

Checks out as a flanno signing.

Has been pretty good the games I've seen him in this year, be an upgrade on our current bench players.

Got a link?

Sportal's sharks sources are actually often okay. They just overstate things a bit.

Yeah he'll keep us in the same half baked success holding pattern we've had for the better part of a decade. We'll win more games than our current low base, but never win a Comp, so let's shoot for that.

Snowman has already called out such sentiment and rationale as this from a previous post for what it is. Ridiculous

So you don't sign a player that is an obvious upgrade on what we have because he won't win you a comp? Why sign anyone at all then? We haven't won the comp ever regardless of who we have signed or what we have done and winning a comp comes down to alot more than just who simply wears the 7 on his back.

Tell me mate, who is this magical silver bullet blue chip halfback that is actually available on the market and comes with a premiership guarantee written around his neck and whom will also sign with us within the next 4 weeks?

I would rather be making a step in the right direction and winning more games, mixing up our style than maintaining the status quo and holding out for someone or something that may or may not ever be there for us

Because it will end in disaster.

Our current half back is 80 mins worth of disaster

Flanno being in charge of Sandow would be like an octogenarian driving a drift racing car to the bank to cash their pension cheque
