I'd be extremely surprised if there were any truth to the rumour but if it did happen rugby would be hard work for the big fella.

You can't just use players as a mattress when a tackle is completed, you have to keep competing for the ball.

If we held onto David as bait then Andrew could get sick of the ruck and maul and return to us under Dave Smiths marquee player discretion and thus be exempt from our cap ;)

The bloke is a loose cannon. Head all over the place and has never liked discipline. Has always said he could go and play union.

Would not surprise me in the absolute least if he wants to walk away.

Exactly. He's made claims about leaving for Union before, hence journo's putting together a semi-plausible rumour now. That doesn't make it true, though

Club is beginning to be talked about as serious contenders...The guy has his first decent shot at a premiership since 2013....Of course he would want to scrap that all and make a Union world cup /sarcasm

Could be plausible if he was going to a team with a chance of winning the Cup.....but Tonga????

The union World Cup starts in 5 weeks. So there would be absolutely no chance of that happening.

I can't imagine the rumour starts without at least some sort of either off the cuff comment or disgruntled talk that gets misinterpreted by Fifita himself.

I know very well how the roar works. I know and work with a former official (who they call 'experts'...lol) who is currently writing for them on a weekly basis.

If you want through him i can also find out exactly how the information was received by them. And i'm willing to wager it was first hand information as described above, either by an off the cuff comment that gets hyped up or by disgruntled talk.

i would believe that it would have credit if he was going to play for australia however Tonga makes this click bait

“The main thing was I thought my contract was going to be torn up.

“With the right support and the right people behind me, I’ve still got a contract.

“I almost lost it all. I could’ve wasted millions, my security for my family.’’

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...rn-to-refereeing/story-fnp0lyn3-1227475298177

these are actual, direct quotes from Andrew Fifita, not his manager or his mum, but the man himself

but you know, union in his native Tonga and all

Clearly playing for Tonga would just be as the article describes window shopping for European Union, who do have the cash to lure him.

I don't believe he is a loyal type. As they say, most of the loyalty in rugby league is dead anyway, the only loyalty is fans.

He wanted to walk away from the sharks and take a big contract at the Dogs. It fell through. He then said he wished he had gone to union, he also said at some point in time in his career he may look down that avenue. He is a mercenary type for mine.

Do i think that all articles at that website are factual no, the same way i don't believe all dailytelegraph or smh articles are all factual. His direct quotes give you some security, but at the end of the day, he can walk if he wants, he will get big offers elsewhere.

To me, Fifita is a very loose cannon type and it is plausible that he could pull this type of card.

Of course i don't want him to, having him come back fresh for the finals is the biggest ace up our sleeve and the man is a match winner when in good form.

I'll see if i can get a hold of where the information came from. Good chance.

IIRC he said at the time he wanted to stay at the sharks but the dogs were offering more and he wanted to look after his family.

I think the backlash from fans and the depression he developed contributed to his backflipping and unprofessional comments at the time.

I think the recent events to do with fifita, in addition to previous comments made about Union, has given someone the plausibility to pull off this bull**** article, and the timing is extremely convenient. I wouldn't be surprised if it was started by a fan from a team close to us in the 8.

Looking forward to it being proven to be a load of ****.

I don't believe the source of the article and it is a long shot to happen before the world cup but I could most definitely see him jump ship in the future.

i find responding to you extremely difficult as you are pretty much the most negative person on here, but i will one last time

his quotes came from dave riccio who is highly respected amongst the journalistic circles, and it always the one to put the sharks in a positive light

do his comments give me security? coming from riccio, yep. if they came from rothfield or someone else, probably not.

the fact that this "rumour" broke from sportal and the roar make me laugh at it.

usually a respected journo would have broken it. plus, fifita is in with weidler now, and he hasnt said boo, so i will sit fuzzy for the time being.

but at the end of the day, he can walk if he wants

how so? how can he just walk? to chuck a sonny? remembering that rules were out in place to block that from happening and without a signed release he cant play rugby now? no, i didnt know that, please explain it to me.

Give me a ****ing break. Half you ****s tear shreds off everyone in here day in day out about every aspect of things negative and even the smallest ****ing things that are done poorly by club or player and then whinge about it on twitter afterwards. Pot Kettle Black.

Brent Read was the original source to this rumour as he brought it up during the time he was stood down before his penalty had been decided. Sportal / Roar have probably just regurgitated it. I hope there is no truth to it the same way you do, but i'm open minded on Fifita enough to think that it's a possibility.

I for one certainly don't buy that it's a conspiracy story designed to derail our momentum. What a laugh.
