Mal will probably pick shannon boyd ahead of him

Agree he will, crazy, two of Mal's justifications will be

1) sticking loyal or choosing next in line from players chosen from last years Roo tour

2) saying it's a limited prep so he'll use combinations made from Roo tour (this somewhat flawed in relation to not choosing Fifs, pleeeease, 'combination' for justifying a front rower selection, to me, Fifs of any front rower for Aus needs to keep if simple,

Do your hit ups
Make your metres
Do your tackles
Keep your missed tackles to a minimum as well as penalties, keep the middle tight , win the ruck & give me your 20-25 mins of your best in your first stint in the field

No doubt. But thats why they are so ****. Theyre desperate.

Flanno scoured the classifieds for his team.

Lewis....unwanted
Fifita.....unwanted
Heighno....unwanted
Ryan....unwanted
Gordon....unwanted

This is what newy need to do, like they got with Mitch Barnett, a good player thats unwanted at his club. No bidding wars, no silly deals. Instead theyre trying to get star power and want to pay as much as needed. They could play money ball if they wanted and set up a good foundation but instead theyre looking for someone big....

Gus said in his little interview with Buzz during the week that Lewis actually asked for a release.

injured*

i'd also say vaughn is playing better than fifita, but thats about it

It's very heartening that the Big Fella hasn't hit top gear thus far , yet we're still going really well matching / surpassing quality opposition packs .

I remember Gus writing an article about how he'd taken Lewis for a drive in his car and a bit of a chat about where things were headed. You'd think Gus being at the wheel would have seemed a bit symbolic to Lewis at the time.

lewis wasnt unwanted, they want himto take a pay cut

Sounds like unwanted to me. "We want you but not for this much cos we wanna buy someone else". Thats a club way of letting you go where they dont have to compensate.

My recollection of the treatment of Lewis by the Panthers is that it was appalling. I recall the Panthers wanting to strip him of the captaincy because he was "not bright enough" to fulfil that obligation along with criticism of him being grossly over paid.

not at all, he was on a bumper contract, like jennings, and gus gave them both an option

take a pay cut or go elsewhere

Yeah i get that but i do remember around the time he was removed as captain there was tension. I think gus's logic was if they stay inget some bargain buys, but if they go so be it. Both players left and were instrumental in their new teams success.

I think there was something about origin too in regards to beingg captain. They didnt like him being off for rep duties or some ****.

Id say there coulda been a few behind the scenes issues, but gus was smart enough to not allow it to escalate publicly like farah/taylor etc

Pretty petty, we want rep quality players but they cant be rep players
So true. In many ways this is what aggravated me about Wayne Bennett over the last 20 plus years. Poor me, half my side are state of origin players, those three games are really tough.

Having SOO players is the opposite of an excuse. It is a privilege not a curse.
