I didn't "bag out" Andrew Fifita, at least I didn't think I did.

I just put an opinion out there that Andrew Fifita has the best treatment for anything at his finger tips, than goes home at night in a car worth more than me, to a house and a wife and a child and a life that we all wish we had, so why, oh why, oh why feel sorry for him, or wish him well or donate any of your thought process whatsoever to his cause, when and here's my whole case.

He doesn't even know you exist.

He doesn't even care you exist

You are a paycheck to him, without us he doesn't get paid to do his job.

And to pop a cherry on there as well.. people that have nowhere near the privileges he has.. All around you.. Right now.. As I type this.. Are drowning. Think about it mate. All I'm asking

You can understand resentment to the Above but its true simple as that.

Just shows how much footy means to these guys, and takes and takes from them. If he had had a good season, was playing etc etc, I wonder whether whatever he is alleged to have had would have arisen? Carney Fiftta etc - a certain percentage at NRL level just need to play, to not have the time to focus on the side issues. Seems quite a few elite swimmers have been a bit susceptible at the end/after their careers as well.

If you remove your head from your own ass you will see that anyone can get depression it doesn't matter what social class you fall into

People can empathise with him because of this fact. Most people know someone or have battled with mental health issues.

That's the point though...anyone is susceptible - it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from or what your individual circumstances are...the change will come through education and discussion that both creates awareness and from there, changes attitudes.

Good on this forum for being (mostly) on the right side of the discussion...

I don't know why everyone is bagging 19ninety9, as he has clearly just outlined a cure for all mental health issues that so many people are suffering in the community. Just give them more money and everything will be hunky dorey. Simple!

I think in your haste to gang up and pick on someone, you've all missed the point of 1999's posts.

He is not saying Fifita has no reason to be depressed. Not once has he stated anything similar to that. He has simply stated an opinion on Fifita's ability to seek treatment for it if he should so choose, given that he is quite well off financially and also has the backing of a football club that has access to professionals that can treat this kind of stuff, in comparison to your average Joe who might be suffering the same thing, but without the means to seek this kind of help out.

Bingo,
Meanwhile old mate that lives three streets over has depression and finds it difficult to get the help required.
So his boss has his head on the chopping block, and its not all good at home as his wife has been telling the kids that dads is really angry lately.
So now his children have distanced themselves from him and its only a matter of time till his wife's family get in her head, and she takes the big step of trial separation.
Back at home the poor bugger has now lost his job has no family to immediate family to turn to so now he has no money no friends no club
or at the very least none he feels like he could talk to about all of this.
So they sit at home crying what about ME.
Trying the best they can to put it back together but without professional help its just like they live in A CLOUD..
This is day to day for average male and female Aussies.

So sad but so true - the victims of mental heath extend to the families, marriages and children of the men and women involved... go look at a few homeless people and you will see mental health issues were at the root of their problems..

Thats absolute horse **** and not at all what 99 was saying. He said that we should not feel any sympathy for Andrew or his condition based on his financial situation and the fact we are merely a pay check for him. And because Andrew doesn't care who we are we shouldn't care for him.

That is what 99 said, and that is why I will call him out as an uneducated, unsympathetic ****wit

I don't believe that is what he meant at all, in fact if anyone at all has no sympathy or compassion for any mental issues they really need to and have a look.
IMO he was pointing out the support level he will receive compared to the general fred blogs.

**** off.

These players are paid more money in a year then I earn in ten and he needs my help. Must be ****ing depressing having a massive house in South Sydney, a fit wife and a perfectly healthy child. 1st world problems.

Aww I didn't get picked for origin and I lost my spot in the Kangaroos, boohoo..

**** needs to spend a month in a 1 bedroom studio surviving on a tray of sausages and a loaf of white bread.

And you fullas are falling all over yourselves to feel sorry for them
, same here in England, aww you're down are you Rooney, you only get paid 300 grand a week I'm sure you'll manage.

FML. What is the world coming too.

Whatever it is mate it could always be worse. If he's depressed he can afford to get the best council in the Australia if not the World, how the **** does he need your support, these athletes are put on a pedestal. Trust me when I say this, there lives aren't anything to be depressed about.

Ok your missing my point.

Put it this way, if you were clinically depressed would Andrew Fifita care? In fact does Andrew Fifita even know your name? Does he even know you exist?

You and I are just nameless faces in the crowd, as far as Andrew Fifita is concerned interchangeable with any other, he doesn't care about you or nor should he, but it's this peasant attitude of praising him and calling his name out at games and feeling sorry for him and declaring your heart felt empathy for him when something goes wrong.

There is no difference between us and the peasants lining the roads to cheer the Knights coming back from a crusade.

Stop giving a **** about professional footballers problems. I promise you they don't give a **** about yours, and they get paid ALOT for that privilege.

Why? Cos a rich, famous, centralized figure in our society is having life issues and I refuse to add to the public outcry of empathy.

Maybe I volunteer, maybe I donate a lot of my pittance of a wage, you know to people that are suffering REAL problems, maybe I've got a bigger heart then you think, I'm just not an idiot.

Don't you think that there is something inherently wrong in our physcology that we struggle to pay money out of our small wages to buy what these people sell, making them stupidly rich in the process and then feel sorry for them when they hit a bump in the road.. **** no, not me.

I understand how it works as a disease mate, all I'm saying is heart felt stories about rich footballers apparently **** lives does not make me feel sorry for them, in fact the complete opposite.

All the heros rushing to his defense need to figure out that Fifita ain't rushing to there aid anytime soon.

The rich get richer, if they stumble we catch them because we idolize them, the poor get poorer, we stumble and we fall into an abyss.

If you think the world works any other way than you are thick.

My point is physcological, we are conditioned into idolising these heros in our society because we need our champions, the fact is we are fans of our club for two reasons, we like the sport, and we need to feel like we are part of something bigger (hence why we refer to "our" clubs actions as "our" or "we" not "them" and "they"), the poorer classes who struggle daily manage to pay hard earned money to buy a Jersey or go to a game need to realise they are paying to watch someone kick a ball. That's it. And they make millions for it.

We cry when they lose and we sing when they win, nothing has changed in a thousand years, nor will it ever. And when our champions fall we are there to help pick up the pieces, when all around us the common people suffer and no one utters a word.

I don't feel sorry for Fifita, at all. I feel sorry for a society that deems it necessary to feel sorry for him.

One thing I can promise you all that is even without your prayers Andrew Fifita will be fine, go donate your time and effort and thoughts to a cause that could really make a difference in someone's life.

I didn't "bag out" Andrew Fifita, at least I didn't think I did.

Ffs how anyone can defend this clown is beyond me, the proof is there the way he was carrying on like a pork chop, although I could see the angle is was trying to go down with the fact there are people put there who cant afford profession help, that doesnt mean you shouldnt have sympathy for people who are better of financially. the way he went about it was just idiotic

The level of sympathy shown towards people with depression shouldn't depend on their financial situation or their profile

exactly right. I also understand someone more financial has a better chance to get better help, than the average Joe. But that doesn't mean they aren't worth well wishes or empathy.

How many suicides have occurred where there could have been prevention? If i can say one thing to someone, i dont care who it is (and i have done so on many occasions, even people on this forum) and give them some hope than i can live with myself with a smile on my face.
