Points don't have to be 1 to 10, but could be 1 - 100 (or 200) to give a better scope/ more flexibility.

All player categories could have a range to allow subclasses within each class.
Eg Internationals could then be within say an 85 - 100 range depending on country, position, player etc.

Subjective yes, I agree with you, but isn't the Salary cap also subjective?
I think a player is worth X $$$ but you think he is worth Y $$$$.

If the NRL set the points for each player then at least there is some consistency in the subjectivity.

Granted its a work in progress, but I'd rather not lose players based on unlimited 3rd party $$$ which we can't compete with and is not transparent. (How do we compete with the doggies offering stupid money outside the cap through 3rd party $$$$ otherwise).

Maybe this might even things up a bit.

Fifita has a point to prove for the Sharks

AAP
BY DARREN WALTON

AAPAndrew Fifita says watching his Cronulla side lose their past two NRL games has been gut-wrenching.
Cronulla's Belmore-bound enforcer Andrew Fifita has revealed his desperation to "prove a point" and help revive the Sharks' NRL season.
Fifita makes his return from a two-match suspension for a shoulder charge against Newcastle on Sunday and is adamant he can help the winless Sharks make the top four - and possibly win the premiership - before linking with Canterbury on a four-year deal worth more than $3.5 million.

Speaking for the first time since officially signing with the Bulldogs, the Test prop said the timing of his suspension 36 hours after telling teammates he was leaving Cronulla was gut-wrenching.

"It's killing me. It's been two long weeks, really long weeks," Fifita told AAP on Thursday.

"I thought I'd be back the next week after telling the boys and announcing where I'm going to be in 2015.

"All the boys have put it behind us, but I've been copping it left, right and centre (elsewhere).

"I'm just going to go out there on Sunday and do my job on the field.

"I've got a point to prove and I'm going to try to use that as motivation to get that go-forward for my players and earn the respect from the fans and the players around me."

With a young family, Fifita said he had no choice but to link with the Bulldogs on a deal that will make the 24-year-old one of the highest earners in rugby league.

"I've got to do what's best for my family. That's the best offer, so I had to take it," he said.

"It's just an offer I couldn't refuse."

For now, though, Fifita is committed to helping the Sharks end their infamous 47-year title drought.

"I want to make history," he said.

"We're zero and three but it's only early in the season and I've seen teams come back from losing maybe their first six games.

"I think we will turn it around. We're getting some quality players back in the next few weeks and that's going to boost our game up.

"It's kind of a bonus for us that we're getting our players back nice and fresh in about round five, round six.

"When everyone else is starting to feel tired and sore towards the back end of the season, we'll still have that freshness."

Apart from Fifita returning against the Knights, the Sharks still have Test back-rowers Paul Gallen (ankle), Luke Lewis (shoulder), Anthony Tupu (knee), fullback Nathan Gardner (shoulder), winger Beau Ryan (neck) and halfback Jeff Robson (cheekbone) to come back in the coming weeks.

Fifita is just saying what his manager told him to say ... Playing the game to make the rest of his year as trouble free as possible

But I do hope he plays every game from here on in so we at least get vale for money on his remaining contract

You know this to be fact do you? Fifita is still a human being. It's entirely possible that while he took the biggest money he could get (in his own words he couldn't refuse) that he still cares about this club and the players he has been around for more than 2 years and maybe even just a little the fans who have cheered him on during his massive form surge. His round 1 game was crap and admittedly he looked distracted but willing to give him a chance over the next round or 2 to see if he means business. If he doesn't deliver and he indeed hasn't meant what he has said about our club then good riddance.

Well Robson is there as well.
Robson has a starting first grade spot though, Gards doesn't.

Fifita's comment on the news tonight about the Knights player with the neck injury.

Saying the NRL are partly to blame.

Saying the most players will pull their head in to milk the penalty and that he has done it before and received a couple of penalties out of it.
After the spinal injury he said he won't be doing it anymore.

Poor timing IMHO.

I thought I was reading too much into it.

But after seeing the news report again, it was something that should've stayed on the field.
