Was also very interesting to hear how Gallen basically took his substitution in the Grand Final (after having shingles the week before). Didn't think Gallen would ever ask to go off.

I can imagine he'd be a bit full on at junior league, that's just who he is, but can forgive him anything after that game!

Nah. Luke Lewis was better.
just check out the Clive Churchill medalist for that game!

Are you a bit precious ?
Andrew comes from a down to earth westy background.
No bullsheet , passionate , straight shooter from the heart .
Is he physically , verbally ( in your opinion ) or mentally out of order with his own teams or opposition interests?

Nope. Not intimidated by him. I’m not at an under 7’s game looking for a fight. Not sure I can speak for the poor 13-14 year old refs who probably are intimidated by him actively encouraging his kids to play dirty for 7 year olds. It’s not just me, it’s pretty commonly known throughout the shire how he carry’s on. He’s kids are getting a reputation.

Some people seem to think being an NRL legend gives you a licence to carry on however you want.

I love him just as much as anyone here for what he did for the sharks.. but I’ve definitely seen him in a different light the past couple of years which to be honest wasn’t a huge surprise from what you hear

I understand the complaint as I can’t stand that sort of parent.

But that’s his personality, it’s not malicious, just larger than life, that’s what got him to be the player who lifted the trophy for us, we couldn’t have one without the other.

It’s up to the junior league to handle any complaints, and let’s focus on the thread title and the Podcast interview. Aside from anything else I don’t have proof of the claims, so it’s veering into risky territory.

Again, I have never witnessed it so can't comment on him specifically.

What I will say is I've seen plenty of parents carrying on at my son's weekend sport and I honestly couldn't give a flog if you're Andrew Fifita, an Olympic gold medalist, Messi, whoever, it doesn't give you the right to be a flog.

Just makes it uncomfortable for plenty of people and that shouldn't be the case.

Interesting podcast. Dont mind woodsys podcast to be honest. Love Fifitas story but his timeline is pretty poor.

Says 2013 was a great season and thenthe ASADA stuff started….nope it started before 2013.

Then he says they played a lot of footy without the banned guys etc, nope, they accepted the bans with a few weeks to go.

He puts massive credit on both Lewy and Ennis especially as we all do.

Goes into some detail about his throat injury also.

Well worth a listen

Great podcast, listened today 🦈
Laughs, tears, goosebumps

He credits Ennis with being the most important signing in Sharks history, but without Fifita and his MOM performance we wouldn't have won that game. No one else could have scored that try.
Not taking away from everyone in that team, they all played a part. But he is, and until we lift the trophy again, will always be the greatest Shark

Bit disappointed with some of the comments in this thread tbh

Which comments specifically? If you're referring to comments around junior footy, some of these are first hand experiences that posters have witnessed.

I am staying out of these conversations as I have never seen him at local games.

Yep. Absolutely no one disputes what he did for us as a player, the love for him amongst Sharks' fans is universal.

Two completely different topics.

I can’t speak to his behaviour being mentioned either but it’s not like he was angel through his playing career.

Always had some attitude to him.

Helped make him the great player he was no doubt.
And there are many NRL players who are worse people no doubt

A lot of his offield indiscretions when he was a player were misconstrued and sensationalised by the media. Such as him abusing a "junior" ref. He is a loud personality and was an easy target

As mentioned on the podcast he is currently a student counsellor at a boys high school

Agree over blown
The example you give where the word junior was pushed to the extent most people thought it was a kid, not someone refereeing juniors

BUT at the same time he didn’t need to be involved in that situation at all - he wasn’t involved. He didn’t need to swear at the bloke or try take his phone.

He does a lot of good stuff and balance of things I’d say overall seems like a good bloke

But doesn’t really surprise me to hear he’s a bit over the top if your opposing him even if that’s as a kid playing against the kids he wants to win.

He’s no angel, probably doesn’t claim to be

You're right and that mongrol is part of the reason why he was such a great player
I'm sorry I just get my back up and defensive of him because of all the lies that were told in the media. If you remember back they were calling for him to be banned from playing in the grand final. All for supporting a friend of his, who was also no angel but is still a human and his visiting him probably saved a life

Yeah agree, many minor things blown out of proportion

Supporting your mate who murdered someone is definitely a dicey area - for Mal to blacklist him over it was incredibly hypocritical. And he did it subtly not like he was rubbing it in peoples faces.

In the podcast he says Mal supported him as he went through a similar thing with his own brother and said it was certain players in the squad that didn't want him there
