$50!

How do you reckon commercial venues like pubs and clubs felt paying $1320 for it!!!!!!!!!

at least they are half a chance to recover some cash through beer sales etc (not many in 29secs but)and its a tax write off.
If danny green isn't paying briggs who's getting that cash?

anyone who paid $50 for this needs their head read! for christs sake it was always gunna be a farce!

i happily watched in the comfort of my local and i must say i absolutley wet myself with laughter when Briggs went down and again with Dannys WWE like tirade afterwards.

Dunno why he was so upset. Briggs did exactley what he was paid to do. Come in and fall down. Just coz he didnt pretend to put up a fight isnt his fault.

Side note, sportsbet had suspended betting on the fight as a flood of cash came in on a Green first round ko yesterday. Investigations are continuing apparently.

Danny is a joke, always has been always will be. What Briggs has done is forced Danny to make a decision. He can either retire and count his money. Or he will have to bring out a credible opponent in his next match coz **** all people will buy it after this one unless he does.

Who knows, we might even see Danny defend his IBO cruiserweight title against....wait for it.....an actual cruiserweight!

I saw it on the news for free....

Seriously though
Between that fight and the other idiots comments wouldn't you think that Australian boxing has gone down the gurgler.
Surely the promoters have to be held responsible to a certain degree.

its definitley going through a dead period, but we have a ton of great local fighters who mix it up every couple of months. Theres been some cracking fights on the free to tv cards lately.

also dont forget we got guys like Rocky Katsidis, Vic Darchynion, Sakio Bika all making waves on the world stage.

You also got Kostya's son Tim carving up in the amatures at the moment. This kid is amazing.

Its just sad the general public only ever hear about Choc and Green as they are the most pathetic and blatant rip off merchants going around today.

Now that i think about it i am pretty sure Junior Talipau has a fight coming up at the Sharkies club.

Can someone please explain to me how this ends up in the footy section?

Don't we have the Summertime Bar section and Other Sports section for this?

Danny Green was the Eels trainer during the Eels/Dragons trial in Perth.
Connection made.

Just watched it.
That is disgraceful.

TRENT Barrett's retirement has opened the door for Matt Orford to return to the NRL, possibly via Canberra

CRONULLA boxer Ryan Waters finalised his deal to fight Anthony Mundine on Wednesday - only to immediately turn his sights to big-mouth rival Lovemore Ndou.

Waters has promised to shut the South African-born boxer up after Ndou publicly questioned his credentials to challenge The Man.

"After I fight Mundine I will be going after him [Ndou]," Waters said. "The bloke calls everyone out but he can't fight.

"I've sparred him and belted him every time. The last time I sparred him it went for six rounds and he king-hit me after the bell. I ended up knocking him to the ground and giving it to him. He's very lucky his trainer broke it up."

Choc's away: Waters claims he has Mundine's measure - Brisbane Times

Choc's away: Waters claims he has Mundine's measure
DANIEL LANE
August 1, 2010

BOXER Ryan Waters has dismissed his next opponent, Anthony Mundine, as ''just another speed hump'' on his road to the world title, adding that a training partner had shown him how to defeat the former rugby league star.

The pair are scheduled to fight in Wollongong on September 15, with the victor promised a shot at the WBA's junior middleweight title held by Puerto Rican sensation Miguel Cotto.

Waters, the Cronulla warrior who promotes his own bouts at the Sharks Leagues club, was adamant he had the power, skill and fight plan to become the first Australian to defeat Mundine, ranked No.2 by the WBA after his last-fight victory over a little-known from Argentina.

''I can definitely beat him,'' said Waters, who's ranked seven and five respectively by the WBA and the WBO.

''It takes a lot to faze me. We could fight in a phone box and it wouldn't worry me. Actually, I'd prefer it.

''I think he'll struggle to make the weight [Mundine has dropped two divisions] and I doubt he'll be able to go my pace for 12 rounds.

''Time will tell whether I catch Mundine early or later on in the fight. I have a good game plan that my trainer David Birchell has drilled into me.''

Waters acknowledged a long list of other fighters had said the same thing only to be beaten by Mundine.

He said watching his stablemate Kurt Barham spar against Mundine during the build-up to his recent campaigns had bolstered his belief a good game plan was crucial for victory.

''I've seen what Kurt can do to him when they've sparred and his game plan is 'on','' Waters said. ''I'm a lot quicker and stronger than Kurt and he'll [Mundine] struggle. His last hit out was not so good. To get hit by clean shots [by Carlos Adan Jerez, ranked by BoxRec as No.2 in Argentina] was not good. If that had been me he wouldn't have been standing.

''He thinks I'm a one-dimensional fighter. He'd think I was aggressive but I have a lot more skills than he'd give me credit for. He'll underestimate my level of skills and that will be shown on the night.

''I have an array of punches, including some he hasn't seen before, and they'll be the ones that sit him on his arse.''

Despite this, Waters said he would not underestimate Mundine.

''He'll be a lot better at this weight the second time round,'' he said. ''He's a great athlete and can step up to the occasion. I won't underestimate him. In Mundine I see a guy who is a good boxer and one who works well under pressure.

''He's awesome at what he does and he's shown that over the years. But I can't see myself losing.''

❏ Victoria's Sam Soliman has been linked to an IBO world title fight with American Peter Manfredo jnr later this year. Manfredo, who made his name on the original The Contender series in the US, fought Australian-based Sakio Bika for the same belt in 2008 but lost by TKO in the third round.

A low blow for fans
Newscore
August 02, 2010

TWO weeks after Danny Green brought boxing to its knees, Anthony Mundine moves in for the killer blow.

How long Australian fight fans continue to be asked to buy in to these fight farces, which in terms of credibility are one small step up from the fight fix, is anyone's guess.

Most fight fans left the game for good last week, no longer able to muster the enthusiasm for another sting in the pocket like the Green-Briggs fight in Perth.

Who can afford it any more?

If I want to give my money away in the future, it won't be on a sham fight on Main Event.

I can get a lot better ride with my $50 at Randwick. Even if I opt to find it with a blindfold and a loose toss of a dart in the general direction of the bookie's stand.

The races last at least a minute there, twice as long as last week's farce, and even if your $50 does finish in the bookie's bag you can still marvel at the brilliance of a So You Think or Typhoon Tracy.

Mundine and Green have broken faith with the people they need most. The fans.

They're the ones who dip into their pocket, often with money they can ill afford, to pay another $50 for a fight that isn't a fight. The undercards are often as bad.

Manny Siaca was pulled out of rehab _ yes, rehab _ to fight Green after just 11 rounds in four years.

Siaca did all that was expected of him. He lasted a few rounds and then he took the count on his knee to end it in the third.

The crowd was disappointed but, don't worry, Green promised he would make it up to them in his next fight. Enter Paul Briggs.

After Briggs was pronounced DOA, Green said Briggs "dogged it" and wouldn't be paid. Yet when asked by a Channel 7 reporter if he would give the money back, Green _ who has that right as the promoter _ ducked the question.

The same when the reporter asked it again. So who keeps Briggs' purse?

The promoter? Who is Green.

I wouldn't be surprised if Green retires now. How many more times can he put the hard hat on and mine our pockets? Who else is left?

Mundine has been paying for it for some time, with his pay-per-view fights not attracting anywhere near the subscriptions they once did.

But hey, it's better than real work, right? With each fight he still earns more than the average NRL first grader so he is happy to continue on his way for less bruises than he'd suffer against the Rabbitohs.

No wonder then _ after the larceny in Perth _ Mundine took just five days to come out and announce his next fight will be against Ryan Waters, a small slugger from Caringbah currently ranked, according to respected website boxrec, fourth among Australia's junior middleweights.

And don't tell me he is ranked No.7 in the WBA. I don't pay attention to official bodies because just a quick Google search will show a rich history of rankings being bought.

The Mundine-Waters fight was organised weeks ago. Its announcement was held back so it wouldn't have to compete with media space designated to Green-Briggs.

When Waters stormed the ring after Mundine beat Carlos Jerez, they had already basically agreedon terms. Boxing people I know swear to me that when Waters fronted Mundine, he whispered to him "I'm gonna push you" moments before he shoved Waters away for having the temerity to challenge him.

So Mundine is taking on Australia's No.4, two fights after saying he struggled to find the motivation for these kind of fights, as he had then against Robert Medley _ who is Australia's No.3.

I wouldn't buy this Mundine-Waters fight with your money.

In fact, fight fans need a ratings system to identify the genuine fights from the one-sided contests we are being asked to fork out for now.

So, without further adieu, call it a public service announcement:

Not even with your money. They should be wearing a mask to even ask for the subscription. Only if you find the money down the back of the lounge.

Good fight on a quiet day.

If you can't get to the pub to watch it, promise the wife a night out if she lets you watch just this one.

Steal money from kids' college fund if you have to, the wife won't find out it until it's too late. Mundine-Waters is a one star fight.

Waters will be hard pressed to win a round, and Mundine should stop him. If he can find the motivation missing against Medley. The tragedy of this is the people who will pay the price for the actions of the Greens and Mundines will be the young Aussie fighters trying now to break through.

How can Will Tomlinson, one of the most promising fighters in the land and about to make it big, convince a gun-shy Australian public when the time comes that they should take a chance on him given the current evidence available?

They won't, and a whole generation of fighters are about to pay that price.
