Well yes you can considering they are both aboriginal and have fought twice, been around the same weight divisions their whole career. Outside of nsw and qld I bet mundine was basically unheard of until he took up boxing. So I think you can compare the 2.

Mundine was unheard off before he started boxing? You sure about that???

Most definitely not. Was a great stink. Mundine started out well, but Sergey came home hard and fast. Wobbled choc a few times, but couldn't finish him off. Best win of Mundines career just too bad he has done it at the tail end of his career.

Cheers, thanks for that, glad he got the win from his own merit, as a sport lover there's nothing worse than someone getting dudded because of dodgy/home town decisions.

Mundine was already a household name due to his father, and NRL exploits. Geale was an unknown to anyone in Australia except those that followed the amateur boxing scene. Most wouldn't even know he represented Aus in the Olympics.

Mundine started his career at Super middleweight, Geale fought at Welterweight so there was about 6 divisions in between the two.

Mundines first fight and most fights since then were PPV's due to his sports profile and family legacy. Geale's first PPV was against Felix Sturm in his 29th pro fight, and even then barely anyone in aus knew who he was. His 30th fight against Mundine actually put him on the map with the Australian public.

So saying you could compare the two is in my opinion a pretty silly suggestion.

Mundine did get a bit of Australia-wide media coverage when he was first about to break into rugby league 1st grade. On account of his father.

Yeah couldn't agree more.

Choc fought smart for his age. Put the early rounds away and managed to survive the younger champs onslaught in the later rounds. For Chocs own health however I really hope he doesn't managed to get Alvarez or Mayweather for his next dust up. Money will smoke him in 1 or 2, and Alavrez will punish him until knocking him out mid to late rounds. I just cant see Choc in his current form being anything but a punching bag for these guys.

Anyone see Hooper get knocked out with one punch by Rob Powdrill? Pro Muay thai fighter steps up on a few day days notice and derails the hype train?

I'll concede the fact I did forget his father was a famous boxer yes. But remind me what are the 6 divisions between welterweight and super mid because I only count 3 and I said they competed around the same weight divisions and not in the same for every fight..

But I'll still bet the trash talking anthony mundine even without the football career is still a pay per view fighter long before the nice guy geale is. And the original comparison was to say mundine makes more money being hated than liked.

Jnr Welter
Welter
Jnr Mid
Mid
Super Mid

so 5 classes. About 10 kgs difference

Impossible to tell wether he would have made more money taking the nice guy route or not, or if he was a ppv fighter before Geale had he not played League. One thing to take into consideration is due to his name and NRL career Choc already had a media platform to launch his racial and offensive rants to make people hate him. Without that platform, would any paper/news outlet even given him an interview? Highly doubtful.

Yeah I saw that in brissie. Powdrill didn't read the script that's for sure.

Disgraceful by Hoopers corner and the ringside doctor as well. Hooper laid there on his own in the ring for 13 seconds after the ref waived it off before his first cornerman meandered across to him, the ringside doctor took 30 seconds to get in there.

Sadly I can see Hooper being Willie Kickett mach 2.

Mate you could be right. It's all hypothetical.

You said 6 divisions between welterweight and super mid. When I said 3 I meant its 3 divisions up from welter to sm.

Yeah mate spot on. No one could hazard a guess.

I have always found however that those who play the villain, do it because its generally easier to make people hate you than like you.

You always hear pro-wrestlers say that. They say it's easier to play the 'heel' (bad guy) because it's easier to get people to boo you then cheer you.

I still don't think Choc ever needed to resort to it though to sell his fights.

In his interview today I saw on fox mundine said something along the lines of 'I'm a rare specimen, only comes around every 200 years'

I don't think he did either mate. Its a shame he went that route. Same as most of the fights on his record are nothing fighters that were well over matched. He could have been our Ali.

Haha see I don't mind stuff like that, as serious as he might sound saying it he's obviously having a bit of fun. It's when he says things like the fact he didn't get picked for many rep teams in League was racism, or the US deserved the September 11 attacks etc, that to me is when he oversteps the mark.
