Hey folks, I wonder if some of the locals could help me out with a few questions I've had for a while about the Cronulla Junior Competition:

- (Roughly) how many junior players do we have?

- How many Clubs?

- What days do they usually train?

- What are the fees like?

- Is there any kind of local Oztag competition?

:cheers

Yeah the Oztag comp is big Bill Harrigan is the CEO I believe and the owner of Oztag is Perry Haddock, I played in the local comp across the road from Toyota, our side carved it up down there!! much to the dislike of Mr Haddock LOL

training is every night, whenever the team wants it or for a big club you have to get your team in early so that you get the night you want and fees are about $150 for juniors (much better than $210 for my soccer)

oztag has the biggest comp in the shire 5 nights a week in summer and winter at various grounds). touchh footy at taren point is now very small compared to what it used to be.

the patent for oztag is up this year, so perry will no longer own the naming rights to oztag if im correct. bill harrigan is now only the tournament director for oztag (nsw cup, national championships) he is no longer CEO.

junior league i dont know much about, but soccer in the shire is the largest association for players (over 20,000) in the southern hemisphere.

I play both, but much prefer the touch footy, even though there are less teams now. It has a real spirit about it, a lot of teams have been in there for a while, whereas Oztag just feels like a bunch of random teams and ring-ins handing over cash and swapping around every year. Plus the refereeing is a LOT better at touch.

the standard of refereeing in oztag is atrocious. there is no training provided to the refs, and no evaluation. and TBH no interest from perry to help them out, all he is worried about is his money and his houses all over the counrty that he has from oztag. i referee at a high level in oztag (nsw state cup, qld state cup, national championships), and im ashamed at comp level. all i get is complaint after complaint about the standard. its a shame really, the game would be so much better with better referees.

there is no referees association in oztag, unlike touch football. there should be. only then will the standard get better with people who can actually provide feedback to the referees and improve their game, instead of having players yell and scream at them and then, they eventually get jack of it, and leave.

I have been playing oztag ever since I was about 6 and I might of had one good ref in the 10 years an, example is my friend in my team knew the ref so the ref said you bait one of their players get him to swear and i'll send him off.... In this years comp the refs just didn't have any control over anyone our team used to swear and get frustrated at the bad decisions then the ref couldn't do anything about it.
