:ROFLMAO: The new scoring system has become a battle of which star player can register the most 6 point games.

Nicho and Ponga short odds again this year with no other star on their teams to split points with. Whoever wins more games out of Knights/Sharks with that player healthy… their guy will win it.

If the Sharks towel up the Dogs and Tigers fait chance Nicho is going to be sitting on 18 points after round 3.

Yeah... this system is worse than the old one for mine

It's not like Nicho didn't play well. Can't argue with him getting some points. It's just that you've got an arm-wrestle type game and where could probably have given points to 20-25 different guys - but amazingly both voters give it to the star player from the winning team.

For the Sharks 3-2-1 it was a game where you could have picked any of 13 or 14 different players imo.

Yeah not sure how Nicho got 6 points but not complaining, he'll be up there again and if he can snag points where possible good on him.

It'll be a nice first world problem when he needs to share points with AFB next year. :)

I think we need to look at an nba mvp model with voting at completion of regular season.

I've also seen in some overseas sports with voting like this where a guy gets a "lifetime achievement thing" because there is a swell of voters who think the bloke has been top 3-5 for 10 years and is getting a bit older and so he is due.

I've also seen the argument that in hockey the "most valuable player" is probably a gun goalie on an otherwise ordinary team who dragged them into the finals. They would almost never award it that way though. Usually just goes to the highest scorer.

Clearly the 6 point system was introduced so that locks can't win :)

Dally M votes: Nicho Hynes 6, Addin Fonua-Blake 3, Siosifa Talakai 2, Thomas Hazelton 1.

Right here is the proof that Dally M voting is a joke and little more than a popularity contest.

It's just that alot of the popular and big name blokes also happen to be good players so it doesn't seem that controversial if they end up winning the Dally M so it kinda works out in the end.

But in isolation for a game I don't think Hynes was best on park, AFB and Sifa were up there, Hazelton good too but Sifa was the best by far and Ronnie and Kennedy deserved points for big games.

The problem is in part the process but also the people on panel IMO, they are not objective enough and seem keen to suck off their favs.

I say it's not objective and is a popularity contest because can anyone hand on heart say that if Nicho wasn't Nicho with his popularity, personality and good looks and nature with pre-determined and established star/gun qualities but instead a wonky bald seal everyday unpopular journeyman Jeff Robson who was noted for being a defensive halfback specialist and Jeff played that same game as Nicho he would have got 6 DM points? No fkn way

All the fans would be saying what a **** job he did in attack as well.

I'm not bagging Nicho's game, he stepped it up in the areas he could control (not alot of ball in opposition end) and made some crucial big tackles. He deserved a mention or some points I'm just calling attention to the inertia style status quo of dally M voting.

Gallen used to default to getting all the Dally M points back in the day and I was a big Gallen fan and he worked hard but it was like a go to default vote when the voters couldn't be bothered watching the game properly or didn't know who else to give them to.

Yeah - kinda the same thing I'm saying. Not that Nicho didn't deserve any. Just that the system favours stars, and in particular stars who don't have any other stars on their team.

Like TS said though... first world problems. I'm sure the Warriors would rather have been playing week 3 finals with AFB in their team last year than have SJ win the Dally M and finish 9th.

Gallen working his dick off was at least his job - regardless of whether attack or defence.

I'd have been interested to know who the judges were for this game, unless it is Ruan Sim's it must be someone who really rates halfback defensive performance. Nicho was certainly 'good', especially given how the game played out. But I think I've got 5 players ahead of him.

I think if you went around randomly selecting League fans, or ex players, who had watched the game and asked them who was best on ground it would take a lot of random selections to find two who choose Nicho.

Reminds me of being given a little card to write down your 3-2-1 after the game and someone else who was given one asks 'who have you put?' before filling in their own...

I don't even think Nicho was the best halfback on the park, let alone player. He was good, but not 6 points good.

Hynes getting the most points wouldn't be a problem as he wasn't bad and made his biggest contribution without the ball - no worries. But as you said Bort the issue is there were objectively better performances. Sifa was an absolute monster backed up by the stats and the eye test.

Good point Proud, Johnson was a menace with the ball through the hands and off the boot in first half particular. Don't remember him defensively but knowing Johnson was probs mediocre in that regard.

19 made 3 missed and 3 ineffective and TBH I though could have been 1 or 2 worse, felt like he got bumped out of every second tackle he made.
Sometimes getting in the way enough to slow the player down while your teammates finish it off is fine. Worked well enough at times for Moyza. issue is when it becomes a non-option defending the tryline... Moyza for example...

Well @BurgoShark you are about to blow your stack!

At the centre of frustrations was the vote given to Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow after his poor showing in his side’s heavy loss to the Cowboys, in which he was directly responsible for a Heilum Luki try when he inexplicably kicked a loose ball into the edge forward.

The Maroons star also fell for a dummy for North Queensland’s first try and was guilty of letting several kicks bounce,

Nah - like I said, it's an observation more than a whinge. It it what it is. I just don't subscribe to the argument "he won the Dally M so was therefore the best player in the comp".

Probably should move on and give CM his thread back.

Carry on with 3-2-1's...

Finally got a chance to sit down and watch the game tonight from start to finish.

3 Kennedy- kept us in the game
2 Kaufusi- I love him, fight me.
1 Katoa- strong carries leading to first and final try. Murdered their fullback.

HM; Sifa, Ronnie, Hynes, Tommy, Mcinnes and Blayke.

I respect this vote for being a bit different but still genuine

Sifa suffered a little because I knew how good he'd been by this stage obviously so I paid more attention elsewhere.

Alot of us on here are quick to bag Blayke when we want him to run more. Had some strong runs last week, first half especially so felt a mention was deserved.
