Not a great start to our campaign.

BHU, Dykes and Colquhoun out. Nicho, Dale and Toby somewhat questionable.

Got another 8 full days between today and game day though, so expect Nicho and (given not mentioned in Pilot report) Dale to be ready.
Toby sounds like it is what it is, play through the pain and ice all the next day.

BHU and Dykes shouldn't be too long by the sound of things. Jesse looks like he came back week 8 for Newtown last time and we can probably expect similar again although foot notoriously bad blood supply so can be a bad healer.

Yeah could be worse, but far from heading in with a fully fit squad.

Once again after all of the off-season predictions the Sharks are down to 8 healthy middles (and they usually name 7 per game).

Say BHU is good to go around/after the bye in round 5.. what are the chances of zero Sharks middles getting injured or suspended in the opening 4 games? Slim to none I reckon.

Tuk or Burns looking like a fair chance of getting a game at some point.

Might fast track BHU onto a bench role rather than via Jets. Hopefully either way we have him back playing footy before the bye, he was hoping to just miss a week or two and has a good physio if reports to be believed.

Tuks trialled well, if we have to give him a run so be it. Burns disappointed me in trials - like we spoke about with Iro he probably didn’t have great opportunities but that doesn’t help him.
I’d hoped he could be in the realm of challenging Wilton and he got beat out for 3rd choice by Colquhoun.
Guess Dragons not wanting to retain someone has its reasons.

But we should definitely let a couple of them walk at the end of the year...

Definitely an argument to give Tuk a run, but I think there is a decent case for Iro coming in after that. With 20-30 to go bring him on at left centre and give Sif a stint in the middle.

Yeah - I wasn't impressed at all by Burns as a second rower. I just mean that if you need a 4th bench middle to play 15 to so another bloke can have a rest, I reckon Burns would be one option. Tuks would be better suited to that role though.

Thought of this too - but not great for continuity on your edge... and I reckon Tuks for 15-20 can have similar impact to Sifa in that role. Not really necessary to mess up your squad for the 4th benchie role, but it might be necessary if they get down to just 5 or 6 healthy middles.

If they want to find a way to fit Iro into the team so badly I reckon they would have given him some time in the trials playing outside someone other than Puru (Trindall swapped sides when Iro came on).

Oh yeah, was saying as an option after Tuks if Burns isn't that impressive. He has a decent hit up in him, would just be whether he could defend closer to the middle.

Should let everyone outside our top 5 or 10 players walk (or 'move them on') the moment they play two average games in a row.

I probably wouldn't do it that way but there is definitely an argument if a couple more dropped to just start Iro.
Iro at centre and Talakai on bench is more interesting to me that Talakai centre Burns bench if we ended up there.
No particular reason your way couldn't work also but I think having played wing I'd prefer the continuity of my centre not swapping in an unforce change part way through the game.

Since we are only talking about the 4th benchie, you could also just have Iro on there and give him the Beale/Moyza/Tricky treatment. Throw him out of there is an injury or let him play the last ten in the middle of the game is a blowout.

Yeah was thinking that too. Could be a way to get him some game time without risking too much. Cam/Jack
/Dale if fit can cover the extra minutes if it's tight, and Iro gets some game time if the scenario allows.

Burns looked pretty good in his limited trial time. Let's hope he isn't required, but I feel like he will do a job if he has to

Dean Treister???

If he is really a billionaire surely he could fling a nice 10 mil or so back to his only (NRL) club!

I'm sure we could find something to name after him in return if his business didn't make sense to actually sponsor directly.
Spend a tiny bit extra on one of the corporate boxes and call it The Dean Treister Hooker Lounge or something...
