The player profile pages has been updated with current squad photos,

Not that we've ever had reasons to put stock on positions listed before but a few that stood out;

Nicho listed as 5/8
Mcinnes hooker
Colquhoun prop
So someone changed the photo and didn’t bother to change the positions still

I think a lot here would prefer him at 5/8 , just playing heads up with Trindall directing the plays.
I do .
I get that. Just saying if I was writing the bio I'd definitely list him as the position he has been and is most likely continuing to play.

Don’t be silly. If you were writing the bio, it would mean someone involved in the Sharks website actually has a clue about the team. They’d never go for that.

It amazes me that with such a long record for being off the ball - that people on here will read some article they put out and think that there is special meaning in it because “they are close to the team”.

Nicho or the media? He didnt write the article, and can't control the questions. If you mean the media then yeah, I agree. We are close to those 2024 origin articles now, can move on from last year.
I love how the article starts with his fall from grace after a Dally M.

FFS if he had played round 26 and managed to take 1 point off Ponga he would have won it again (would have been 3 way tie with SJ).

The SMH is doing a countdown of the top 100 players.

Me thinks Uncle Roy is losing it a little bit.

24. NICHO HYNES (Cronulla, 73)

His versatility ranks him No.24 but his best positions are fullback and in the halves. Representative selectors will always be tempted to find a position for him on the bench because he can fill in on the wing, or even around the ruck, as he did with the Storm. However, when he is playing away from his preferred positions against the best in big games, he can be exposed. His former Storm teammate, Cameron Munster, knew he had it over Nicho in last year’s Origin series when Hynes was drafted in as centre late in a match. Munster locked eyes with Nicho, briefly hypnotised him and found the gap for a match-winning try. Loved for his advanced sense of social justice, he has to become more self-centred and shed his crises of confidence.

Nothing there is incorrect. Just the media hyper-focusing on Nicho missing one tackle in a position he almost never plays. Would have preferred something original about his play at halfback - but they don't roll like that.

As you said, time for everyone to get over it. Bring on a Qld win in this year's origin series so you mob can anoint a new whipping boy.

Missed a critical tackle when playing for Australia too.
Do you have any defensive stats for Nicho at the Sharks in 2022/23 Burgo ?
Does he have issues ?

Mate every player in the game misses critical tackles, especially when playing out of position. It's so overblown it isn't funny.

Everyone needs to move on ffs.

I don't have stats to back it up but he does miss a few.

He's a big body for a half so you'd hope it's something he can improve on.

I have seen him play there before, so it's not likely but it is possible.

I certainly wouldn't pick him there, but in a pinch if forced to he'd do a better job than a forward or hooker/forward utility you could put there.

Reminds me of the old Kangaroo tour matches. Greg Alexander on one wing. Des Hasler on the other. Florimo in the second row.

I don't do anything on defensive stats for backs. My stuff is about role and work rate rather than defensive potency. Backs are only in there to show their involvement in yardage sets.

I pretty much ignore halves except for noting errors or penalties.

Fair enough Burgo,
BUT , I tend to agree with Jaz , that it's not just the BIG games where he's missed only a couple .
It's playing in Sharks colours that he does seem to miss LOTs too .
Perhaps he does have defensive issues that need to be addressed.

Has his moments. No more or less than most other halves though imo. Cleary in the GF was pretty awful in defence and still snagged a CC medal.
