We should try get Penrith's fitness coach. That club is the fittest squad I’ve ever seen.
Half convinced Penrith are on steroids. They're all the same uniform build, even between positions like second rower and fullback/winger. That and their fitness is always an edge above what other clubs can offer. The basket cases might have **** fitness but the top sides should be able to match penrith, and yet

Some people are just naturally fitter, maybe that is a trait they prioritise
They also play well enough to make the game easier for them - good control and discipline means more easy work for them and more hard work for opponents

Although 20+ years ago I heard pretty reliably steroids were fairly prominent in Cup and RM from squad guys or uncontracted guys trying to make the NRL. And dramatically less so once guys have actually cracked the NRL.

Spot on about them playing well enough.

If you complete your sets and don’t leak points it’s the easiest way to preserve energy. They are very fit but this has more of a factor than them having some guru fitness instructor or being on the juice

HGH is what they are on. No way someone can have a chin stick out like that naturally.

It's like they have been peaking for five years. Not many players that leave there seem to maintain that level.

The most tackles in the comp is interesting. As is the second most kick meters.
Surprising given Trindall missed games and all the talk Hynes weak boot takes too many
Trindall took 10th most in NRL, Hynes 16th

I also found these two interesting

143 – tackles broken by Sione Katoa, the equal-third most in the comp alongside Newcastle's Dane Gagai. Roosters captain James Tedesco (162) ranked first.

161 – support plays by Cameron McInnes. Only Manly's Jake Trbojevic (178) and the Roosters' Luke Keary (189) pushed up more than Cronulla's captain.

Given there has been some talk Cam doesn't make enough impact (support plays make the impact guys lives a lot easier) and Katoa doesn't have a big impact on games

Sione averages 7 tackle breaks per run (across field zig zagging away)

Would be interesting to compare his tackle breaks with meters gained thou.

😉

If Hunt goes, which is looking likely, can Flanno afford to darg his feet for a year?

They can’t run Flanno/Marsche/King-Togia
Maybe they could get Milf for a year or Nikorima from Dolphins if Hunt went there and they overpaid him enough to move. Puru maybe as another to fight for jersey.

I think Hastings would be their best bet personally.
Or I could see us releasing Atko for a good enough offer (to him and a junior back).
Trindall early they’d have to offer him basically what Hunts on for us to say okay we won’t stand in your way but we’d probably want someone very decent back too.

I think they can’t wait a year for Trindall and that makes him a lot harder to prioritise.

Let Hunt go for Nikorima, take most of Guthos contract, take most of Hastings contract.

1 Gutho (Sloan/Nikorima if he’s out)

Halves Flanno and Hastings with Nikorima as backup

9 start Cook then use him as a lock when Liddle comes on

Allows them to have a decent side next year but prices them out of Trindall. Then maybe they try get someone like Sexton when Woods is pressuring him out.
