The NRL has announced that in addition to their usual fiddling they have actually read their own rulebook.

Summary:
- clarification on the new restart rules (ref decides whether he reckons it was contestable)
- focus is still quick ptbs and 10 metres
- mid-air tackles from bouncing balls (like the Garrick one last year) can be penalised if the player is put in a dangerous position
- Surrender tackle rule will be applied as written
- Downtown rule will be applied as written
- You can't baulk a guy who is trying to catch a kick
- Leg lifts that put a player in a dangerous position can be penalised
- Less strict enforcement of the deliberate knock-on rule (genuine juggles/bobbles are OK)
- Attacking players who drag tacklers off will be penalised
- Will possibly penalise "drivers" in normal plays (not just try-scoring)

... and HALLE-****ING-LUJAH no more blockers at the ruck.

I'll believe it when I see it mate, especially the ones in relation to blockers and surrender tackles.

If anything they'll do the usual, crackdown for 3-4 rounds then revert back to the usual.

...?! The suspense is killing me!

Great summary mate, thanks.
Still looks like a lot of subjectivity. More than ever really. I'd agree with @HaroldBishop that some of it sound too good to be true
Haha fixed.

Also - here are the last three videos. Forum only allows 5 bits of embedded media.

I agree, but holy hell if they follow through with these it will be a revelation.

Xerri looked ok? Didn't break the game open and I thought the Dogs' wingers actually outshone him. Can't see him starting round 1.

Salmon was used as a ballplaying lock. The commentators were loving him but I thought he was fairly meat and potatoes.

Dogs looked to be constantly setting up that slingshot play of ours. Unfortunately for them Blake Taafe is no Will Kennedy.

I thought Salmon and Kautoga were good. Salmon excelled as a ball player, but his hit ups were awful. Xerri was handled quite easily by Seve so make of that what you will.

Cheers guys.

Yeah - Salmon has good ball skills. Was a rep half coming though. Needs to be able to have strong carries too though.

Didn't picture him as a lock (and like every other player, I tried). Sounds like he's a better fullback option :D

Just managed to watch the videos. So the surrender tackle pretty well makes the voluntary tackle redundant. Why not just get rid of it from the rules?

Yeah agreed. I'm not sure voluntary tackle is in the NRL rulebooks anymore. It's probably still in the International Laws, but there are so many differences now between "Rugby League" and "NRL" that another one isn't going to make much difference.

Will be nice to see the blockers removed, because that was getting ridiculous.

Leg pull is an important one. Not just from an NRL point of view, but the flow-down effect to juniors can only be good. Dangerous situations like the ones shown in those videos - particularly the JWH one - are really common in juniors and almost never penalised (because the refs confuse NRL and junior rules). Having the junior rule aligned with the NRL law for that specific situation will help refs get it right more often and most importantly help prevent head and neck injuries.

The rest are positive changes but if they forget them after 3 weeks it's not the end of the world.
