Unfortunately for Trindall sitting on the bench in first grade (or even playing 15 out of position) doesn't do a lot to keep pushing his case.
While I don't care that we had our 17th man not play I do think we'd have been better off having him run around in reserve grade for 80 mins (especially as stats suggest our halves in that had a shocker).

However I don't think Trindall makes much difference that game. Him being peppered by hard runners on the tryline isn't a recipe for success and we didn't lose it for lack of attack.

Any one or two less of these simple errors and we win that by not allowing sustained pressure on our line
Katoa 2
Mulitalo 2
Talakai 1

Other key things, a half not being able to defend the line isn't great but a second rower being as bad as Wilton was is inexcusable. Between the two of them it was a shambles.
Dale putting himself in position to get binned for hip drop after we'd already seen a bin for one earlier and game was in the balance was a big blue by our highest paid player we brought in to be a leader too.
Bort all we needed was to not concede just 1 of those trys scored on that left edge, just 1. I honestly believe (and you will disagree) that having Trindall there and giving his inside and outside man a little bit more confidence would have don’t that.

And in attack, Trindall offers so much more with ball in hand and also kicking. He still leads the comp in 40/20s.

And again IMO, he is a half that has the ability to provide a clutch play if it needs it.

Also, that penalty we got just before half time, he could have kicked that. I can only assume Hynes can’t kick that long and that’s why we kicked for touch.

Of course bort doesn’t think trindall makes much of a difference in that game

It’s not like Trindall was pretty much the best player in our team in the first 3 games - wouldn’t of made a difference at all

You can honestly believe it all you want, it doesn't make it fact. I can believe this stuff doesn't happen. Doesn't make it fact.
The only fact is he hasn't made the team.

(or in this case, the field)

We spent all last season sooking that Wade was getting a run over Teig, ruining the left edge, 'it's favouritism for the veteran' we said.
But just yesterday I looked at the stats - we defend that edge better with Wade than with Teig. Of course the Moylan hate brigade can view that as 'it's not Wade was a better defender than Teig, but Moylan has got worse'. You know what though? Maybe Graham gave him more confidence.
It seems blinded by hate to assume the change to the most important defender on the edge did not impact defence on the edge.
I think it appears the coach got that one right and we all (except DJ) got it wrong.

I don't see how Trindall gives his inside and outside men any more confidence in that game. I can see why you would decide he does, because there is nothing he can't do, but Wilton was at least half of the problem. Is he going to be more confident to come off the decoy runner on the inside to tackle his man because Trindall is out there? In Trindall fairytale land, sure. In my mind, no, defence comes from the inside out (typically), if Wilton isn't getting out it makes no sense to me to suggest it's because he doesn't trust Moylan. If anything he should be overcommitting out if that is true.

And we didn't need more offered in attack - we scored most of the times we were down there. Our attacking shape right now is amongst the best in the league. People keep telling me Trindall can do everything better than Moylan but if we don't score one of our tries because his touch isn't as good as Moylan's, or he goes himself instead of passing, that negates the one he maybe stops. Hypotheticals work just as well both ways.
We have scored the second most points in the league (averaging 23 with Trindall, 35 with Hynes) - no evidence to me we need more in attack.

Trindall also has the ability to make a dumb decision to go himself or do a **** kick into legs both of which don't come off more than they do.
And as for goal/penalty kicks he supposedly makes - yeah maybe, maybe not though. 10/11 for this season, 2/6 for last season, nobody makes every kick.

Even if Hynes (or Trindall) made the last kick and took us to golden point do we win the game? Very good chance we don't. Trindall kicking 2 points at halftime instead may well make no difference to the outcome.

I have absolutely no issue with Trindall being named in 6 next game - I'd be keen to see it.
But there are comments in here acting like he is some godlike figure who would make every tackle and fix Wilton's defence and fix Talakai's defence and be kicking 40/20s to get us out of trouble from the ball being dropped consistently on the 1st and 2nd and be kicking goals from everywhere and making clutch plays (even though we have seen him kill plenty of plays in the past). To me his potential impact seems over exaugurated - perhaps I'm even viewing him a bit more critically due to the fact some have been crying out for him to be promised the 7 jersey for years. Personally I'm very glad we didn't and have signed Hynes.

At this point Bort, it’s about showing a different look than last year. If we want to finish top 4 again, it looks like we may have to change it up. Because at the moment, this team has not improved on last year, and other teams have, hence our ladder position.

I have made numerous posts about Wilton, I don’t rate him as highly as other people in here. I think he has potential, but I think he is a few years off seeing that potential.

To be perfectly honest with you, Wilton is a backrower, defending is half of his game. So I’m more disappointed by him in defence than Moylan. I can see why Moylan misses tackles, he is targeted by bigger players every game, Wilton doesn’t have that issue and should be much more efficient. I think Wilton, along with others needs a Flano or Bellamy spray, something I’m not sure Fitz does behind closed doors.

The only reason I say replace Moylan is because there is a ready replacement that has shown the ability to control a game, relieve Hynes of additional pressure, provide more kick options and tighten the line up in defence.

Yes Trindall has made mistakes, tried to do too much, kicked it out on the full. His does have errors in him game. But I think we need to show a different look before this season is done for the Sharks.

Please do not tell me I hate someone and that’s why I’m suggesting we make a change. You wouldn’t know, but I have worked a lot on myself over the past few years to not be that person.

I appreciate all the comments and points of view in this forum. Let’s try and keep it civil please, everyone.

I did read your whole post bort, and it's great. I disagree that Trindall has been over-exaugurated though. Maybe that's what Wiz and Milky think we are doing now???

For fun value, I am going to quote your post with poetic licence...

Trindall is a godlike figure who makes every tackle and would easily fix Wilton's and Talakai's defence; he'd be kicking 40/20s to get us out of trouble on every set. No need for forwards to take hit ups. He'd also make clutch plays 100% of the time in the other team's end, would never kick the ball in to the defenders' legs, Trindall would kick every conversion left-footed, blindfolded, and with an Adam MacDougall shaped butt-plug firmly inserted. Personally, I'm very gladwe have signed Hynes as Trindall's squire. Where can I buy polish for the statue?
Well said mate!

Forgive me for the late reply, I sometimes don’t see all the posts.

I don’t think we are over exaggerating Trindall. I think Wizard and I have been calling for Trindall to start for at least 2 years. 2 years ago maybe you could say we are over exaggerating, but now he has shown the ability that we both saw years ago that he has.

I have said that he is going to make mistakes. He will overplay his hand at times, he will kick out on the full or into someone’s legs. He won’t always make clutch plays, he won’t be making 100% of his tackles.

Stating we want Trindall to start is not agenda driven, we just want to win games. And we have seen enough to say that Trindall should be given the opportunity to start games.

A stat for everyone, Trindall has 4 TA to Moylans 3, and hasn’t played in 2 weeks. And that includes the blowout against Dragons in which Moylan had:

0 try assists
0 line break assists

In 80 minutes

It doesn’t mean anything, but it’s interesting.

Those stats do mean something, I rather Trindall make the mistakes as he is still growing and gaining experience. Moylan I get has the experience but it looks as though his time has ran out.

The problem I have is Moylan has the experience but never really been a consistent winner. He has always played well when on top against lesser sides and lost the big moments. Trindall is a real competitor and I see him chancing his arm to win games but also being a real effort player. I would love to see him partnered with Hynes for a month to see how they gel. I don't wish for any body to be injured, but geez I would like to see them play together sooner than later for a few weeks.
