Same thing happened to Staggs earlier in the game... I'm all for HIAing players who stay down for a penalty (I expect next week we'll be back to normal)
Apparently I was wrong... lasted all of 4 games.

The bigger picture is ensuring that Ponga’s brain still works properly when he is 45. I didn’t think there was much in the contact, but I don’t have a bunch of degrees or special concussion training. Happy to go with the Dr’s call.
Righto, Helen.

If you had those degrees & your mission was to keep everything safe your mission is to end contact sport.

But my point is more that we put a lot in the hands of 1 guy watching a telly & he can rule anyone out at any time even over ruling boots on the ground medical staff. Most the independent doc HIAs get passed but they gotta go off for min 15mins

And if this doc is swayed by Ponga's concussion history is he just as informed about the concussion history of everyone or just the stars?

I don't have any doubt that they pulled Ponga base on his history. I'm pretty sure if NRL Physio on twitter is across it the doc would be too, mate. He could be the next Boyd Cordner
So because it was well publicised by the ever reliable journos the "independent" doctor's hand was forced? If it was some **** no one had reported on would it be the same? Is this guy all over the concussion history of everyone on the field? I ****en doubt it.

Ponga is immensely over rated so the Cordner comparison could work but I just don't see Ponga shifting to 2nd row.

Probably true. That or rule changes that reduce the risk of head contact.

Wouldn’t someone seeing it on multiple angles on TV have a better idea than someone sitting on the sideline seeing it from up to 100m away?

Do they? Serious question.

That's what the game has continued to do for quite sometime now. Everyone strives to do better. You can only reduce something so far before its all gone.

If you hurt yourself do you want a doc in person or via zoom? I think the ID can tip up a trainer to check a player for something that wasn't noticed but what's the point of the onfield assessment when the ID reverses the decision 2mins later?
Do they? Serious question.
According to me & my **** memory; absolutely!

I think this weekend so far its been 3 outta 4 or 2 outta 3. Ponga did fail.

I'll try collate some stats & we'll revisit this when (if) I know I'm right lol

It's not a footy season until Ricky has a sook after he loses.

Reading his comments though, he made some good points regarding the independent doctor, off-site in a box assessing these things. Don't want players injured, concussed or having problems down the line after playing due to concussion, but he had a solid point that they have gone overboard with how they are assessing it now.

But at the same time, Souths didnt want to take Tatola off yesterday in the 1st minute.
But were forced to after independent doctor stepped in.
Itll continue to be external until coaches make correct decisions themselves

I see your point, I do. Just feel they are going too far the other way. Player gets his chin grazed and they are sending them off under HIA.

Yet Walker and Moale stay on the field yesterday despite 'high' contact

It was well publicised and the independent doc didn't know about it?

I do think the doc would have some medical background available on the players, yes mate.

Anyway, concussions aren't one off events that completely heal and can be assessed individually, as far as I understand it. I'm no doctor (though neither are the doctors I'm lead to believe) but it seems that if you have a history, you're more likely to get them again. And worse.

What’s that based on?
