Just want to give a shout out to the Women's game. Has certainly come a long way, and very good now. In my opinion, their skill level is light years ahead of the AFL women's game which I find totally unwatchable to tell the truth
Is too low scoring to be excited about at the moment.
Hard to watch when they are kicking European football scores.

Don't know why I did it, but I did. I watched NRL360 lol they didn't give us a chance, just passed us up.

Love it, no media hype means no pressure and no expectations created from the outside.

Pretty good bet that Ivan is going to rest a truckload of players before finals.
that should read busload shouldn't it?

Not to my knowledge mate. It's all to due with where we finish (ie top 2) and whether our ground meets NRL requirements.

Unless the MRC make the call, in which case it could be played at Perth, NZ or PNG.

Our ground doesn't meet NRL requirements so I am not sure why it is being discussed unless those requirements have drastically changed in the last month or so.

A restricted capacity of 12k does not cut it not to mention all the other facilities and what not the NRL bitched about us not having (which we don't at the moment AFAIK tbf)

I would imagine the parking situation there is even more of a cluster **** than usual as well so they would need a **** tonne of buses ect doing the rounds

All Sydney suburban grounds more or less have these same problems and challenges but without the restricted capacity due current construction works

doesn't really matter what those merkins think but out of interest was Slothfield on?
If they had Ennis on the panel he would give us a big shout

I value Billy Slaters opinion over media flogs and hasbeens. In this case I think he's correct that we are under the radar and could really surprise people in the finals.

Seems silly to be under the radar or sleeping when your team has won 9 of it's last 10 including victories over Storm, Cows, Manly ect but Storm & Panthers have been the best teams last few years and are beasts in the finals so its understandable. Roosters can be included in that too.

Would we be viewed differently if we were outright 2nd with Cows in 3rd like it should be? Prob not

Ruptured testicle rules out Dearden for Cowboys’ top-two push

By Murray Wenzel

August 22, 2022 — 10.14am
Tom Dearden will be sidelined for North Queensland’s push for a top-two NRL regular season finish after requiring surgery on a ruptured testicle.
The in-form Cowboys five-eighth completed his side’s 48-4 defeat of the Warriors on Friday but lingering pain from a blow forced Dearden to report to hospital that evening.
Dearden, whose form surge this season led to a sparkling debut for Queensland in game three of State of Origin, is unlikely to feature in the side’s run home against in-form sides Penrith and South Sydney.
The Cowboys hold second spot on points differential ahead of Cronulla, who play the Bulldogs and Newcastle to finish the regular season.

Todd Payten could promote Ben Hampton to partner halfback and captain Chad Townsend, or shift in-form fullback Scott Drinkwater to the No.6 and reinstate Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow in the No.1.

Rothfied was on but didn't really press much on the Sharks. To be honest it's all about everyone else in the top 8 except us.

It's nice to be under the radar with the media stuff, mainly because the **** slingers aren't paying attention to us. We are running a tight ship and our players whose contracts are coming up want to re-sign, for unders a lot of the time. It's nice to be in the top 4, going for top 2 and to deadset deserve it.

Seeing the way the last round game has gone to **** over the last 5 years or so, should the NRL follow the AFL in having a week off before finals?
It's pretty shitty that top teams have the advantage of a secured position and can rest guys. It's also shitty that all these awesome match ups in rd 25 could be played by reserve graders (Eels v Storm, Souths v Roosters, Cowboys v Panthers).

I think that ideal. The problem is that there are too many rounds in NRL. Would probably have to reduce a round which is tough with another team about to come in

Depending results the first two games could also be battles, Souths could be playing to keep Roosters out of 8, Eels v Storm could be for 4th.
Panthers having spine disruption already could rest a couple but not too many, Cowboys might need the win to finish 2nd so they will be going for it. We play after them so they can't afford to risk the game as they don't know our result.

Usually around 7 teams have been eliminated by the last round, it's just the way it is.

I'm not a fan of the AFL model. As @bort said there are still some very important games in the last round that mean a lot.

To me the season loses a bit of momentum with a week off.

I agree some of these games could still host a full contingent, it just seems more often than not these days the top 4 at least will rest most of their stars. We potentially could have been treated to 1v2(or hopefully 3) to cap off the regular season, but there is little to no chance many of their rep players play. I'm not sure the best way to fix it, I just think it's an average end to the season. The week off would also account for any scheduling issues with short turn arounds leading into the finals.

For those teams though it very much is not the end of the season. For them they have even more important games to play.

Do AFL teams who gain nothing from a win in the last round all field full strength teams?
I don't follow closely enough to know the answer to that.

I don't watch it, but there is often accusations of tanking to get better draft picks for teams who can't make the 8
