We seem to be taken lightly compared to where we are, it's always the other team that lost it Panthers had plenty of chances and blew it but i would say it's us that shut that down with the defence, there was like 4 sets in a row at one point.

Not that i mind under the radar is fine with me but we don't often get the proper credit.
at times I would agree with that statement but the Panthers are an absolute rabble at the moment but it's still a good effort nonetheless

Yea they were woeful but i think many other teams would have let them in the game with the chances they had.

We are just behind Storm for points conceded and that's no coincidence i feel it was more what we did than it was them being **** tbh, anyway not so much a comment on that game just in general/over recent years.

Seems to be plenty of support for Sharks players in the rep teams this season...

- Holmes being discussed for Australian wing again, and likely to make his SOO debut
- Bird being discussed for Australia, and almost certainly will be somewhere in the Blues 17
- Leutele, Tagataese, Paulo and Brown would be considered certainties for Samoa if fit
- Maloney being discussed for Australia with JT injured
- Graham being discussed for Australia and NSW
- Fifita being discussed for Australia and NZ
- Matt Prior's name was thrown out for NSW, and you would think he definitely plays for NSW Country
- Jayson Bukuya would be a starter for Fiji, and will be in the mix for Qld
- Beale is always in the mix when it comes to NZ selection
- T Rex could get the call for Tonga
- Townsend may get picked for NSW City again

So there could be as many 14 Sharks players turning out on the Rep weekend, and anywhere between 4 and 7 players selected for SOO. So much for having a rest.

Also - forgot about Feki for Tonga. Make that 15.

Gould reckons we won a soft premiership when we beat every other team in the top four to win it? Sit down, champ.
From what I recall of his article he said something along the lines of not for a second discounting the Sharks tough, gritty, courageous Grand Final win but then contradicted himself by saying it was a soft comp. So which was it? If it was a soft comp we wouldn't have needed to display those very attributes he lauded us for?

It really was an article that he just didn't need to put up, all it did was get sharks fans offside without really adding much in terms of insight or commentary.

Love seeing an honest toiler show some top form.
honest toiler is one of my favorite terms thrown around in league ha ha

Billy Moore and the table in general had lots of good things to say about our Premiership defence so far on NRL 360, and the fact we are one of the better chances of actually doing it.

Hadn't seen this mentioned today. I would love this to be the case as I get so sick of the betting agencies practically being part of the broadcast.

Sports betting ads to be banned ‘siren to siren’The federal government is poised to introduce new laws to ban gamb*ling advertising during live sporting events as early as next week — but the imminent move has prompted angry opposition from sporting bodies, which say the move will dramatically reduce funds for grassroots sport.
The Australian understands that Communications Minister Mitch Fifeld will go to cabinet on Tuesday with the proposal that would affect all betting advertising from “siren to siren”, or from the start to the finish of games.

Senator Fifeld has held high-level meetings in the past week with AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan and NRL chief operating officer Nick Weeks. It is understood he has also asked sporting codes how a siren-to-siren betting advertising ban would affect them, in preparation for the measures to be implemented.
It is understood the move has been most heavily pushed by Scott Morrison. The measures are expected to be approved by cabinet.
But a senior source at a major sporting body claimed yesterday that the move was shortsighted.
“This will drive punters to overseas websites and it will result in no *reduction in gambling, but a reduction* in taxation to state and federal governments,’’ the source said. “It also has the potential to rob sports of product fees.” Product fees are a commission that sporting codes make on each bet waged on their sport with Australian betting agencies.

Malcolm Speed, the executive director of the Coalition of Major Professional and Participation Sports, which represents all of Australia’s major codes, has also protested about the prospect of more restrictions. “We don’t support a ban on sports betting advertising, on the basis that it is likely to impact on media rights deals or the value of media rights, which is the sports’ greatest asset,” Mr Speed told The Australian.
“We *operate in a highly regulated system, where there are limits on placement of sports betting advertising.
“The sports have co-operated with broadcasters and the government to ban live odds during matches. So any restriction or prohibition will inevitably result in lowering investment in community and participation programs, and grassroots development.”

As part of the deal, the federal government is expected to engage in a trade-off with free-to-air TV networks, which is likely to see them use the deal as leverage to have their licensing fees reduced. It is not yet clear whether a similar deal will be struck to compensate subscription television.
Senator Nick Xenophon, who has been the driving force behind the bans, said he supported the moves on betting ads.
“Obviousl*y, I support tightening up gambling advertising ... I’m not going to stand in the way of *restrictions, but if you want it to be sustainable in the long term, you bring the broadcasting industry with you,” he said, adding “it should also come with a reduction in licensing fees”. He said he would also support subscription networks getting an equivalent discount.
A spokesman for Senator Fifeld would not comment on “speculation about (the government’s) deliberations”.

Revenue from betting agencies has provided a significant increase in revenues for sports.
Only last year, the NRL made Sportsbet its “official wagering partner”, as part of a $60 million, five-year deal. It is understood that the AFL has a $10m-a-year deal with CrownBet.

The betting ads **** me but not nearly as much as nanny state rules like banning them. If someone is stupid enough to blow all their dough on the punt, tough ****.

Honestly I don't mind them as adds, I just hate the integration with the broadcast. I don't want to see any live crosses to joel caine or any other prick, just go on with the footy and let the advertising for other ventures be done in you know.. advertising time.

Few years back we were all kicking up a stink about how much air time Tom Waterhouse got, and then they brought in rules to scale it down.

Fast forward to today, and I can't see any change, still has the same amount of advertising, just none of that penciled neck goober

Lost at sea.
Good move by the gov, whilst the majority of us would zone out or not get sucked into the live punt ads, young kids having it shoved in their faces from day one builds it up to a point where it could be considered totally normal to them.
