Great result for us. A Storm ever n this arvo would be handy too. Cowboys, Eels, Roosters all in a Sydney would be the ideal path the the GF for us.

Sydney and the NRL need to do everything in their power to make a state of the art stadium in a good location, like next to / on top of central station or Redfern.

The fact they are contemplating building one next to SFS disgusts me. It isn't even a bad stadium, just a **** spot. And **** going west of Newtown
Yeah right near Central would be the best but it will never happen unfortunately.

Ok, so people in sydney consider moore park to be an effort to get to from central? Sounds to me like the problem with sydney is the people are too ****ing lazy to go out of their way at all

Is it really worth sinking all that money into another boutique stadium and not being able to get more bums on seats or just spend coin upgrading all the suburban grounds so they are fantastic for the 15-20k that go there every week. Dumbest thing the nrl could do is look at afl and try and mimic them, because as it's been pointed out it really is a cultural thing in Melbourne people just enjoy turning up at events.
Even last night it is a shhit look when either end of the ground has no one sitting behind the goals

SOOOO funny in Brissie .
Courier mail calling it Broncos year for the last 6 weeks .
Playing expansive non finals footy style .
Under pressure and the wheels fall off in attack ( Boyd might have helped ).
Now all of Brisbane is sitting in the gutter awaiting roadside service. But alas , it's got a flat tyre and can't fix their wheel .

Spot on the main supporter bases for both codes are different types of people.

But lets also think about the sort of sport....afl is kicking, passing, catching. The game can be seen from any spot in the stands. U know whats going on. Nrl with all its penalties and interpretations, sitting a distance away u dont know what the penalties are being called for. Its a game best seen up close as the tv telecast allows. That said i dont think anything compares to actually being there but i can see why people would prefer to watch at home.

But i do think maybe its a sydney thing. Seems to me like unless its a stones throw from home they dont wanna know about it.

AFL supporter bases are historically based on train lines to the suburban grounds.

So if you lived out in the far suburbs, the oval you passed on the way to the city was the team you supported.

Now that the local grounds are gone, these lines still lead to MCG or Etihad when you factor in the city circle.

It's just part of the AFL culture to travel to games, and throw in a century of membership and that's why they have the numbers

As i said before indont follow afl so i have no idea about supporter bases. But really, its pretty clear there is a big difference between victorian and nsw sports supporters. Afl fans just go. Nrl fans seem to have every reason not to. The public transports too ****, grounds too hard to get to, cans of coke cost too much. I guess if people wanted to go, theyd just go and all these things wouldnt matter. I know how much of a **** around it can be to get places but thats also not something that would deter me

It didn't hurt that the AFL(VFL) kept games at suburban grounds till they were turning people away. Then everyone started buying memberships to secure a seat.

When that sold out they then built or moved on to bigger grounds.

It was all very natural

I don't know much either about AFL either, but if you look at where all those Melbourne teams are located it's looks like what the NSWRL was 100 or so years ago.

They all look like inner city or inner west suburbs. None are too far from the CBD.

It's like the NRL still having the likes Newtown, Annandale and Glebe.

What's their Penrith equivalent? Manly, Cronulla or Campbelltown?

The closest comparison is Geelong - which is like Illawarra or Newcastle.

So it makes more sense playing at 2 grounds in the AFL.

With Rugby league if you lived in the suburb you supported that team, AFL if you lived along a train line you supported that team ie: hurtsbridge line you supported Collingwood.

That's all gone to **** now in modern times, you support whoever you want

It isn't black and white. People that get a coffee on a main street instead of walking 5 weeks aren't lazy. They just value conveniance.

There would be an equation to it. You get x% more people when you make it y% more convenient.

Suncorp would be able to attribute thousands of attendees to its proximity to train stations and the CBD, and thousands more to it being in a good night life precinct.

If you can't make an effort to get to a few games minimum a year there's no excuses imo. You're just a lazy **** or you don't care as much about the team as you think you are.

It's a 15 minute walk mac from wooloware to shark park, and even then on game day they do shuttles that take about 2 minutes.

To Allianz it's a really nice walk and a unreal pub crawl. Anz is literally right on a train station. The list goes on. There's no excuses people these days are just unwilling to leave the house

Yep as i said, if people want to go, theyll go. Sometimes people need to go out of their way a little. The sfs is what 15-20 min walk from central. Not that far really

It's a deadset nice little walk whether you're on your own or with the misso/mates/family.

****, you can make a day of it with the kids and take em to lunch or go to the zoo/nice lunch and that way you don't need to buy food at the ground. Plenty of ways around it
