Sound like they will go through a few whistles this year then, I only hope that they are consistent with the rulings across every game.

That goes with the policing of the ruck as well
What got me pissed off was in the first week of the semis the manly/dogs game the refs let the game flow no penalties in the ruck for holding down etc then come our game the was penalties left, right and centre

I swear it's like the refs use the ruck to blow pointless penalties. There are times when a team is holding down the attacker forever and no penalty is given then the same team 20 minutes later gets of quickly but is penalised

Doesn't really relate to this season but wasn't sure where else to post it. Sounds like a nice guy!

Former NRL player Andrew Frew and his girlfriend have pleaded guilty to charges over the blackmail of a Sydney postman, by forcing him to pay thousands of dollars after accusing him of being a paedophile.

Frew, 37, who played for Manly, Parramatta and St George Illawarra between 1997 and 2004, pleaded guilty in the Downing Centre Local Court to two counts of demand with menace by making accusations in September.

The NRL salary cap will reach $7 million by 2017 after the players approved a new five-year Collective Bargaining Agreement.
After months of tense negotiations, the RLPA confirmed a vote of 83 per cent from the entire playing group had finally ended the pay stand-off between players and the ARL Commission.
The ARLC has yet to announce details, but can reveal the salary cap has now been set for the next five years, bringing clarity to clubs as they secure playing talent for the future.
This year's cap has been set at $5.85 million, rising to $6.3 million in 2014, $6.55 million in 2015, $6.8 million by 2016 and $7 million in 2017. Under the new heads of agreement the players will be able to renegotiate the CBA for 2016 if the game's revenue continues to increase at a rapid rate.
In a statement RLPA boss David Garnsey said the new CBA went a "long way" towards achieving the RLPA's objective of establishing the best employment framework for elite professional athletes in Australia and New Zealand.
Garnsey praised the NRL stars that led discussions at the negotiating table including Test skipper Cameron Smith, Petero Civoniceva, Robbie Farah and Paul Gallen.
ARLC chairman John Grant said the deal was beneficial for players, both now and in their post-playing careers.
"It's a very good deal and it recognises the value of the players to the code," Grant said.
"But it also recognises the fact that players' futures need to be provided for after playing and it also recognises the short-term nature of some of the careers in rugby league."

Word has it that SBW and The Roosters team will only play for only 20 of the 26 rounds and claim the Premiership

Can't take the Shire out of the boy
Yeah I read that too, surprising that he's actually committed, then again it doesn't mean much, he has that proven track record of abandoning team mates at the drop of a hat.

Definite scumbag - so wanted Botha to knock his ass out,

Isn't it just a handshake agreement for 2014?

But I guess it's set in stone what with $BW being loyal and all

I Heard nike wants to make a Barba line. I think if he keeps his form up and continues to impress he will be the golden boy of NRL for the next 5 years.

It's about what's going to get people interested in watching the NRL. I don't like SBW, but he will get people watching at least for the round 1 clash that don't normally watch league.

Supercoach Craig Bellamy is staying at Melbourne Storm and the decision saves the club from possibly losing two of their champions.
Details of his new contract, the richest coaching deal in the game's history, will be announced at a press conference on Monday.
Skipper Cameron Smith and halfback Cooper Cronk had get-out clauses in their contracts if Bellamy had walked.
In other words there was an opportunity for any club to buy a premiership by taking Bellamy, Smith and Cronk in one swoop.
St George-Illawarra, or any other club, could have grabbed all three.
Storm obviously kept the news quiet that two of their champions have the special clauses.
"There are a number of reasons why it's important for Craig to stay" said CEO Ron Gauci at the weekend.
"But we don't discuss individual details in player contracts."
See the Storm's press conference to confirm Bellamy will be staying LIVE on Fox Sports News from 1pm (EDT) Monday.
These are not the first players to have the coaching clause in the contracts.
The last player to use the option was Canberra winger Blake Ferguson, when he left Cronulla after Ricky Stuart cut ties with the club.
Because of their respect for Bellamy, Cronk and Smith insisted on the clause in their last deals, Cronk as recently as last season.
Bellamy will confirm he is staying at a press conference on Monday before the team leaves for England for the World Club Challenge.
The irony of the St George-Illawarra offer is that Bellamy was once a reject at the club.
In the early 80s he trialled as a fullback at Kogarah, but couldn't get a start.
He finished up at Macquarie United in the Newcastle competition before Raiders talent scouts grabbed him.
Gauci has been trying to get the coaching deal done for a month at Melbourne Storm.
"Craig is entitled to review his position on the market," he said, "He's been a wonderful leader for this club but he doesn't owe Storm anything.
"If he did go we'd give him a hero's send-off but we're naturally hoping that won't be the case."
For all the brilliance of superstars Smith, Cronk and Billy Slater, Bellamy is the cement that holds it all together.
The club has to remain competitive on the field to ensure their survival.
Storm was guaranteed extra funding from the NRL of $26.5 million over six years when the independent commission came into power.
What happens in five years when the funding stops is the big question mark.
Despite winning the premiership last year, Storm's home crowds have fallen from an average of 14,000 at AAMI Stadium when it first opened to 12,000 last year.
With Bellamy, Smith and Cronk all staying, the immediate future is secure.
