The Mrs heard on the radio that the players association or NRL sent out emails asking for opinions to NRL players on this matter and they only got a very small amount of reply's

anyone else hear that today on the radio.

SMH reported the same thing. however what you may have missed was the fact that this email was sent out waaaaaay back, when the idea was only in its infancy. one player emailed and one player made a verbal response (according to SMH). i would assume most players would've thought nothing of it seeing as that the idea was just in an embryonic state, either that or they were busy whipping each other with wet towels in the steamy post training showers.

either way, the players are most likely not too stoked from all reports (except by the Goons) and maybe now that they speak up we may not have heard the end of it. the SMH article did state that the commission was in fact very interested in hearing the players out.

Is anyone else completely unsurprised by those reports? That none of them could actually be bothered. Or did they not understand how a review works? And now there's a stink?

Its stupid. Genuinely brainless.

At its best, RL is a great game and there are plenty of good people involved in it. But more and more, the adjectives that come to my mind when I think those who run RL (including the Comish, Club bosses, the coaches and leading players):

- Short-sighted
- Visionless
- Machiavellian
- Defensive
- Insecure
- Conflicted
- Close-minded
- Small-time

Where is the vision for how the game should be played, and how it will be played? What's the narrative? What do Dads tell their sons when they ask them about RL?

Its light years behind AFL at the moment.

today the SMH article stand that the commission will meet with players and the players union but will not change its stance. sounds like the the commission will "speak to the players" about their findings (ie sell them the rule change) instead of discuss the players' issues, include this in their report and reassess their findings. rubbish way to do business.

Has been the case for quite a while now AB unfortunately. You only have to look at how the AFL has gone about putting a team into western Sydney. They have a 20 year plan and will pour upwards of 100m into it, and we're just talking about one team here. There's more vision in that than what's gone into the entire game of rugby league.

I had high hopes when the ARLC was announced. Early days I know but at this stage not much seems to have changed.

The Sharks Facebook page just posted that we are around the 2,100 members mark. I think we're actually doing good at the moment considering this is (to my knowledge) the first time the Sharks have actually given updates to our membership numbers in a preseason.

All fair points AB in one way, but AFL doesn't have anywhere near the physical challenges as in the NRL. They will never have an issue like the shoulder charge to worry about.

That being said - every major sporting management across the world (except maybe Oz cricket) ****s all over NRL - light years ahead.

That couldn't be further from the truth, B&B. The AFL has the hip and shoulder which is every bit as brutal as a shoulder charge. In fact probably more so because it can come from any direction and on a man without the ball. It can be very brutal. There has been much debate about the hip and shoulder over the last couple of years because just like the shoulder charge, quite a few have gone wrong and hit opponents in head causing concussion.

Did you read it on 1Eyed Eel gumby? If so, the member who blogged that, snake, is a renowned bull**** artist. Here is the link to it: http://www.1eyedeel.com/forum/topics/falou-signs-with-japanese-cherry-blossoms-no-joke

He has also put up other untrue blogs, such as one claiming that an NRL player (forgotten who it was) had been taken by a crocodile and was now dead. If this is where you got it from gumby, don't believe a word that snake says....haha.

AAAAAHH HELLO BOOM BOOM, how do you find the time to post on here when your on 1eyed eel all day and night, im not sure how poor Gooraz puts up with you :)

Just read somewhere that Israel falou has signed a 4 year deal worth 4.4 million with a Japanese rugby union club. Apparently he was sick of negotiating with parramatta. Anyone heard anything about this? I reckon it's bull**** but thought I'd share it with everyone.

Gumbo, the bloke that reported that over on the Eels forum is actually 'The peoples poet', he doesnt miss much mate, he's from coast to coast like butter on toast, no stranger to danger, but Gumbo, i think you fell for one of his daily tricks aimed to catch the muppets out..
Anyway Gumbo, what are you doing surfing the Eels forum and pretending you forgot where you saw it? lol, gumbo, im right onto you Tiger...:)

Respectfully disagree mate, understand your point, the power and speed of the front on shoulder charge in RL is light years heavier than AFL hits, theres no comparison.

I don't watch other sports anywhere near as closely as I do watching Rugby League, so I could be wrong with what I'm about to say.

When it comes to collisions, nearly all sports have em. When you have grown men running flat out, the consequences can be lethal if two guys crash into each other.

There can be plenty of blood in AFL, soccer and even a non-contact sport like cricket.

But they are all "accidental" collisions.

The difference with Rugby League is that you can intentionally line someone up.

So that's why, when it comes to the debate about whether to ban the shoulder charge or not, what's happening in other sports is irrelevant.

Pretty much summed it up for me - cheers :)

Hi snake. You had to come and check out your mention on Sharksforever, didn't you?

I'm definitely not an Eels fan, as you well know but I do like the friendly banter on 1Eyed Eel, as well as the fact that I am somehow able to get away with uploading videos/photos of "Up Up Cronulla", Damian Irvine as a kid in his Sharks gear, Sharks logos etc all on the main pages of an opposition supporters site. I'm slowly hypnotising you all over to the mighty Sharks, one by one....haha
