This is the side I see Flanno going with for Round One. Not necessarily the side I'd go with but this is what we'll see me thinks.

(Maybe swap Ryan and Wright around)

bukuya on early year form would be in there before tupou. but in reality i cant see a 400k player playing ressies. also i would contemplate tafua before ross.

i know alot of guys on here are set on pushing Gal into the front row to start, and you cant really name a starting front row without explaining the bench to go with it.. but i would run with a pack of

8-Ross
9-Degois
10-Gibbs
11-Lewis
12-Hino
13-Gal

regardless of numbers i would play Hino at lock and lewis and gal as 2nd rowers...bench of Fafita Toops Graham (+ one other utility/hooker), Fifita comes on for Ross, When Gibbs comes off Gal pushes into the front row and Graham in Gal's edge 2nd row spot... and toops as more impact when ever needed. if we are playing a big team perhaps drop toops and add Tafua for additional go forward ... just thoughts.

You cannot not have Graham in the run on side, that would be such a waste.

Swap out Bukuya for Heino pending Bukuyas form but otherwise this is how i'd be starting the year.

On the bench I have Fafita, Heino, Gardner and Ross or Tupou maybe, but preferrably not a front rower.

Anyone running Wade off the bench after Hino, is dreaming.

Flanno loves the guy, and he has been an absolute machine for us.

He is twice the player Hino has ever, or will ever be. If Gallen does play at prop, I think we will see a 11) Wade & 13) Lewis pairing. 12 could be a number of players but that 11 & 13 should be locked in (unless they are interchanged between themselves!)

wade has to be starting. so that pretty much forces gal to the front row. but the other grey area is the ruck. with lewis on one side and wade the other, that would leave heighno in the middle with gal toops gibbs and maybe ross in the middle as well, not the best imo. also on gardner. in form he should be our fb with gordan to wing but we didnt buy 3 fg wiingers. we bought 2 and a centre/fb. i would not have gards on the bench only starting or ressies. leutele should be viewed as the incumbent not why he shouldnt be our centre. i also strongly support the view that mills should get off the wing and play centre in any team he plays for just to see how good he can be.

I'm yet to be convinced on Leutele and Mills. They are both slow and lack any kind of attacking ability needed to make a break out wide. Imo we are still at least 1 attacking centre away from being a real premiership threat. We really need someone with pace running out wide off Carney this year (hopefully Gordon and Gardner). He was holding the ball up and forcing the defenders to hang back when he drifted across field but we had no centre with even half a football brain to run off him (and on the odd occasion when they did run off him they were so slow the defenders were all over them).

i think leutele has pace and a good footy brain. his defence improved and he scored some cracking tries. i agree with mills but he has only played wing in fg.

Anyone who thinks Gatrds should play FB over Gordon is kidding themselves.
Gordon Can defend. Gards can't
Gordon can diffuse a bomb. Gards can't
Gordon attacks the footy when there is a grubber towards our line. Gards doesn't.
Gordon runs of the hip of his forwards. Gards doesn't
Gordon passes to players outside him when they have an overlap. Gards doesn't
Gordon is the record holder for most points in a single game at the Panthers. He was playing fullback in that game.

Gards is a bit faster probably but he doesn't use it.

I personally think we should disregard alot of Gard's recent form due to injury.

I can't agree with the bolded Gards has a very strong supporting game we haven't used it well. Think of all the times we saw him get smashed on inside balls.
I've seen examples that make me disagree with the underlined. But I have also seen examples that make me agree. This aspect of his game will come with more experience.
As for the italic that plays no part in this arguement Gards isn't a goal kicker.

Gards was one of the only things that put a smile on Sharks fans faces in 2010-11.

Have a look at this and tell me he wouldn't be handy.

If it was as simple as one misses out it's a no brainer Gards misses out but we can have both of these guys.

I also think some people have been a bit harsh on Gards for his poor performance he has suffered some injuries that kill a player that plays his style of footy yet alone an inexperienced one.
He will learn form his mistakes, if we end up letting him slip through our hands I think we will really regret it.

He reminds me a bit of Fergo with his stupid mistakes through not being a mature enough footballer but gee hasn't he gone up a peg. Fortunately for Fergo when he was at his worst he had size to help him.

PS I hate admitting that ****wit is a good footballer.

I think we have to put both Gordon and Gardner in the team, they're the quickest players we have.

Maybe trialling Gordon at Centre and put Garderner at fullback. Gordon has a size advantage of Gardner, also I believe Gardner to be better running the ball back at a broken line. The only place I wouldn't be putting Gordon is on the wing, we need him involved as much as possible.

Hey at least we have options :)

New South Wales Win U17 Clash
Story By : QRL Media
SHARP-shooting Parramatta youngster Nathan Gardner stole the limelight with 24 points as New South Wales trumped Queensland 52-18 in the Under 17 Origin clash at Telstra Stadium.

The Blues raced away from a hard-fought 12-all halftime scoreline, posting seven tries to one in a rampant second stanza.

It avenged a 42-16 thrashing in the same contest in 2006.

Eels winger Gardner was far from a lone hand in the victory, however his two tries and eight goals were impossible to ignore in the wash-up. Many of the conversions came from the sideline, curling them in both from left and right of the posts.

The masterful kicking display overshadowed one of the great tries of the year from Queensland fullback and Rockhampton Brothers talent Anthony Raymond, who scooped up a ball in his own in-goal and showed remarkable pace to run the length of the field.

Bizarrely, New South Wales team had four members stuck in the elevator at the team hotel before kick-off. Yet the home side didn’t waste any time breaking out of the blocks, winger Gardner pulled up just short in the second minute.

It looked for all money like the Blues would be first to score as they dominated early territory and were ruthless in defence. Backrower Mitch Johnson brought the first big roar of the evening with a smashing tackle on Queensland lock Chris Faust, before prop Tom Hancock stitched up winger Kieran English.

However Queensland absorbed the pressure and stood its ground. When a succession of penalties fell their way, five-eighth Andrew McCullough set his feet and launched a pinpoint kick for winger Steven Elliott to score out wide.

At 6-0 ahead, McCullough then threatened to dominate the match. His kick-chase was fierce and he took a heap of stopping when on the charge.

Once more though, the game delivered the unexpected and New South Wales was next to score, captain Wade Graham providing a brutal fend on custodian Raymond to cross, followed by a beautiful sideline conversion from Gardner.

Gardner returned to the same position four minutes later, this time touching down himself after a strong run and offload from fullback Lachlan Coote. Again the winger converted from the touchline.

New South Wales’ lead lasted until three minutes before halftime when workaholic backrower Ryan Hansen threw a great offload on his way to the turf, finding Wide Bay’s Dan Cross off his hip.

The 12-all halftime score was indicative of an enthralling contest to that point, where the passion and skill was befitting of the Origin arena.

Unfortunately for Queensland, it was the 20 minutes proceeding the break which had the most influence on the outcome.

The Blues hammered down four tries in one-way traffic, with Gardner grabbing his second and Greg Waddell scoring two pearlers.

Lightning-quick Raymond interjected briefly with his crowd pleaser in the 57th minute, however there was no follow-up to the effort and the Blues ended the game with another three successive tries.
NEW SOUTH WALES 52 (Greg Waddell 3, Nathan Gardner 2, Lachlan Coote 2, Wade Graham, Adam Reynolds tries; Nathan Gardner 8 goals) d QUEENSLAND 18 (Anthony Raymond, Steven Elliott, Dan Cross tries; Ryan Hansen 3 goals) at Telstra Stadium.
