I'll kick them off
Haven't posted on here all year, but read the forum everyday.
Perhaps shouldn't be writing this now with the loss to the Raiders so raw.
In summary it's been a good year for the Sharks but could've been so much better. We lost so many close games we should've won. Tigers, panthers, storm. Top 4 was realistic.
I always thought in preseason we were top 6 material because we had depth in the forwards and halves. The critics didn't recognize this. Although he didn't do much we had John Green in reserves all year essentially and he was on the bench in a very good Dragons side.
What brought us undone were 2 things.
* injuries. Yes ever club has them. But we were without our best outside back all year Gardner and also missed Toupo for big chunks and clearly after Origin Gallen and Carney played injured. Wade Graham stamped himself as a star and then suffered a bad injury. Even today he clearly played injured.
* the back three. Without Gardner our various back 3 are simply not first grade standard. They cost us plenty of games this year, they couldn't take advantage of Carney and even today they made crucial mistakes.
But there's plenty of positives
* we should have a stronger side next year with Lewis and Gordon and even Jonathon Wright. It's very disappointi g smith is likely to leave.
* The coach has proven he has a great ability to recruit, however clearly he's recruiting for now and not the future given the age of our top line players, so taking advantage of that is critical.
* this years experience will serve the players well. Learning about the importance of closing out games.
* and finally the development. We don't have to worry so much about folding.
Let's just hope we can jag another decent outside back. As much as I hate to say it, we'd be looking pretty good with Ferguson still in the team.
