Dear Members,

The 2009 Members BBQ is to be held on Saturday the 19th of September!

Time: 8-10am Members to watch team train

Where: Summertime Bar

The day will include: BBQ, Mascots, Jumping Castle, Airbrush Tattooist, Giveaways, Selling Merch, Mermaids

All Members will be able to watch the team train, then have breakfast on us!

I didn't even realise it hadn't been held yet... Is it normal for the players to still be in training?

Just got back from the Members BBQ. Had a pretty enjoyable morning, watched the team go through a light training session and then the kids went out for a skill workshop on the training fields with one of the Club's junior development officers. Have to say, I was a bit disappointed that the kids workshop was not attended by any of the players, they would have loved that.

There wasn't a really big crowd there, which was disappointing as well, although I guess alot of people have stuff on on a Saturday morning.

If anyone from the Club is reading this, can I make one request? Watching the players go through their training session on Shark Park this morning really made me want to go out and have a run and kick the footy around. What about next year, we organise a couple of games of touch footy where the members can team up with the Sharks. That would be great fun and a real drawcard, IMO.;)

Could be an oh&s issue?

I was there too. Did anyone notice gal had dropped a few kg's and when they were playing touch he sprinted 30m for a try and I'll tell you what, he was pretty quick! Quickest I've ever seen him run!

Maybe sticky wants them all leaner next year which is a good idea I think because the game is definitely faster. Look at the teams doing well, they have one thing in common, speed and strength!

Couple of the new boys were there, Kelly and gardiner and I think aiton. The other good thing was Reece was out there! Good to see him running around.

Cmon 2010 and cmon the broncs tonight (only time I'll ever cheer the broncs is tonight against the dragqueens)

gallen has always been quick over a short distance, shows how slow our backs have been over the last few years

These are large grown men who are athletes in the most brutal full contact team sport on the planet.

Perspective!

I think (hope) Amamo was talking about OH&S for the fans? I know I would be more than happy to sign some form of waiver to take part in a game of touch footy with the Sharks. I had a game of three on three basketball a few years ago at the Sutherland PCYC w/ David Peachey and a couple of other Sharks against me and two of my mates. I was marking up against Peachey, I'm 193cm and have played a fair bit of basketball but Peachey was just going over the top of me and two hand dunking. Man, that guy could jump!

Needless to say, me and my mates had a ball and I'm sure there are plenty of other Sharks fans who would love the chance to have a social game with the boys.

yeah i was meaning us!

although we all like to think we can run around without too much trouble, i wouldn't bet against their being a few knee injuries amoungst us fans if we had a go! although i've had 2 knee reco's so maybe im a bad example!

i think it would work good if it was a mix of players and young kids...but adults..nah, after the season we had, i can just see some more bad PR for the club if something goes wrong.

I went down and watched the boys.

It was a great way to start the day off, clear blue sky, fresh breeze in your face and a chat with friends.

Seeing the gang run around I could see the "potential" in Kelly that everyone has been talking about, he certainly has that natural ability that gives you a helping hand when under pressure.

Looking at who I thought was Gardner (hope I'm wrong) he didn't seem that fast at all?

Now A couple things I have to say about Orcher. Some of the reasons that have been mentioned for him not getting a go in firsts was either he's too small, doesn't put in at training and defensive issues.
Watching here, well for one he's as big if not bigger than Stapo. With regards to putting in at training, he easily put in extra than most others, backing up with repeat drills when there weren't enough numbers. As for speed, he easily burnt everyone else in our team and came from no-where to attempt a diving touch on Fergo. In one drill, he got there late (having just completed the set before and numbers were short for the next group to go) and even giving the rest a head start was still the man to overtake and make the touch on the ball carrier.
Hate to sound like a broken record but I hope he gets his chance in firsts next year.

Also funny but good to see how competitive Gal is even at training.

Come on, it's only touch footy! Why is modern society so hell bent on "risk management"? I mean, come on, you have to live your lives to enjoy them people. Is it going to get to the point where we all sit at home behind locked doors because we are too scared of the big, bad world.

Ultimately, it's your choice if you want to have a game of touch footy - no-one is going to force you!

The thing I noticed about him (Kelly) is that he is tiny! He will surely need to put on some size before playing NRL or he will be injury-prone, IMO. He has fair dinkum got legs like sticks!

And one other thing...at the Members BBQ on Saturday, they had 2009 home jerseys for sale fully, signed by the whole NRL squad. Each players name had been individually printed on the jersey with the players signature above. This would make be ideal for framing and looks very professional as each players signature can be identified. They were pretty cheap too, at only $100.

I don't think the problem is that people are too scared of the big, bad world. Companies must risk manage as their insurance won't cover some accidents.

Yes, it is sad that the world is going that way - but the problem is that people readily sue and that insurance companies will not readily pay up.

Yeah mate, I know all about that line of thinking but it's sad, isn't it? People choose not to experience life because of the potential consequences. It has just gotten beyond a joke, IMO. For instance, I work in an industry where just doing you job means you might get killed. Yet our management sit around in OH & S meetings where they perform risk assessments on the danger a tear in the office carpet represents. The ultimate result, if you follow this line of thinking, is that we will be directed not to go outside to do our job in case something bad happens to us!
