I thought all our Props actually bent the line for a change , looked fit and BASHED their pack when we were defending.
Good signs as they know its gunna het hard to be in the top 17 each week
defence better this week for sure

something of a foundation from that trial

I thought Talakai was solid without being spectacular.

Ramien was mostly good but got caught out badly a couple of times rushing up in defence and being caught in no man's land. Nikora got binned but the defensive lapse was on Jesse.
Poked his head through just about every single time. Really strong runs.

Unexpectedly, Xerri topped the runs and metres.

I think this game was a good indicator that if we lose Brailey we are fuuuuuucked
Yeah Berrell isn’t much and McInnes is no longer a hooker so let’s put that one to bed for good.
I thought Berrell went OK. Could do a job. That error in the attacking end wasn't his fault. Hunt didn't take his foot off the ball when playing it.

McInnes is not an NRL standard hooker anymore. He was a handbrake for the attack any time he played there last season. Injury cover only.

For the limited minutes Hua Tapuha got I thought he looked promising
not sure we need another front rower though.
I think 10 is the magic number. The Sharks played games last year with 6 in, 3 out, and a back on the bench. You need 10 if you want to avoid that. Sharks have 9 in the top 30.

You could probably play Burns in the middle in a pinch. Wouldn't provide much impact but he'll get some quick ptbs and he'll tackle his guts out.

" The game was a good test in a way for playing against a niggling opposition. On that note the sharks have a lot of ***** in their team and will be watching them hoping they lose every game from now on. Whoever that player was who tweaked prestons ankle after he'd already hurt and gone to grab his ankle is a total ****. Am surprised a craig fitzgibbon coached team have such a **** vibe. "

Is dude talking about when Sifa landed on Prestons ankle and immediately checked he was okay?

Meanwhile their new captain tried to turn our Fullback into a scorpion on his first tackle but that's fine

Re-watching the game... geez that downtown penalty on McInnes was a soft/pedantic one. He was about a half a toenail in front of the ptb, was walking at a snail pace, and the kick straight in to touch.

Watch them be like that for a month and then bam, back to normal. They're so ****ing predictable.

I'm still not sure I completely understand the rule.

Is it that no player can move past the play the ball before the ball is kicked?

Before the ball goes past him.

Penalty against the Sharks was the correct ruling, but I just though it was overly pedantic. The chasers timed their run properly but Brailey and Trindall got their combo wrong at the ruck. Ramien ended up kicking it straight in to touch and the chasers were never going to gain any advantage.

While handling wasn't pretty there is always plenty of rust in these pre-season trials and that goes for pretty much all the teams plus you factor in the heat and irregular player combinations

Everything gets tightened up come NRL season proper if we are serious

In theory at least our defense starts off in a better place than it did season prior and that gives us a better chance at both winning the tighter games + not getting annihilated. F/A will be a factor on what is likely another congested table

We need our spine to fire though and the rest of the players just gotta do their jobs, we have good players across the park but gotta hang in when things aren't going well and/or we are under pressure.

I don't think there will be any drastic changes to gameplans or structure but coach has gotta drive the mentality, attitude and energy along with our senior players.

There was a worse one in the second half where ramien was a mile ahead of the ruck and nothing happened. Typical NRL rubbish.
I don't know that specific one. The ref was calling players out though, so it is possible if blokes were in front and stopped after getting called out they would let it go.

He got within 10 metres but I think was far enough away not to be noticed initially. It's definitely going to be used for a few weeks and disappear again

Just found it. Ramien was playing the ball. You can't be in front of the ruck if you are in it.

I could be watching a different one though... or maybe it was first half. Definitely no Ramien down-towning in second half. Kept an eye out on the re-watch after you mentioned it (was half way through when I read your post).

Nah was a different one. He wasn't playing it. Was out wide. Could be I've misinterpreted the rules too.
