Well, Matilda’s had the benefit of a World Cup in Australia played at very accessible times. If the men’s World Cup was on in Australia, the coverage and excitement would’ve been even higher.

I don’t think there would be many staying up late to watch Matilda’s play Indonesia either
Nah wouldn't be higher, loook at the ratings they got, bigger than Cathy Freeman's race (admittedly the population has increased since then). Reason is simply more females will watch the Matildas whilst male fans will still watch.

I don’t think it’s sustainable for the females to continue to attract those audiences though, it was very convenient. Once those conveniences are gone, the interest wont be there. Also I think you’re underestimating the allure of a World Cup in football.

Guarantee that the men’s would attract higher audience but will never know because they won’t get a chance the way fifa is run

Oh for sure, I just think it's unique to this country because so many females watch them that don't watch the Socceroos.

Just want to point out that all their home games since the cup have had full houses. Sold out weeks in advance. Including their upcoming match at AAMI Park against Uzbekistan at the end February. This train isnt slowing down anytime soon.

We shall see, hope you’re right and that it does continue to grow. But I thought the men’s game would go from strength to strength after our Asian cup win.

Are the women’s league attendances improving?

Not like the A League draws big crowds
Not big crowds but still 3-4 times higher at the moment. This is what I was saying about consistency, the Aussie women’s games will sell out but they are still casual fans not your week to week lovers of the game.

Australia Day was a good example. Melbourne v Syd was a double header, the women’s game had 4,500 and the men’s had 18,000

Maybe it’s just a matter of time but I don’t think it will grow much higher just my opinion

So after Australia 4-0 win over Indonesia in the last 16, we now go to the Quarter finals to face the winner of Saudi Arabia and South Korea, two of the three teams that are ranked ahead of Australia, the other being Japan.

At least one of those big threats will be knocked out first.

I assume Son will be playing?
Captaining and leading the line yeah.

Heres the Quarter final brackets by the way:

Friday 2/2: Tajikistan (The underdog story of the tournament) vs Jordan
Saturday 3/2:
Australia vs South Korea
Sunday 4/2: Qatar vs Uzbekistan
Bahrain/Japan vs Iran/Syria

If we get past Sth Korea, we’ll play the winners of Tajikistan and Jordan for a spot in the final.

With the Saudis gone, we’re probably now the fourth favourites behind Japan, Korea and Iran, just ahead of hosts Qatar.

Cheers mate. Shame it's on at such a shitty time for our part of the world, would have liked to have watched it live.
