Could definitely make use of Matterson but I wouldn't want to overspend to get him.
Nikora and Wilton are competent and have room to grow, and both should grow still.

Matterson has been playing well off the bench for Eels but it'd be awkward to overspend to get a bench edge player better than our starters... but doesn't really make much sense to bench either of them also. Think if we are Wilton and Nikora we can better spend the money than Matterson.

I read that Keary's deal at the Roosters is back-ended and he'll be on 1.3 million next year. No idea whether this is just a wild stab in the dark by the journo, probably is.
Supposedly but that's downright insane.
Zero Tackle, which isn't a great source as they pull from other articles, has him 850k each year.
Both he and Munster are contracted still though, him for next two years Munster just for next year.
Storm would maybe consider releasing Munster a year early if Roosters wanted to chip in for Keary to come to them.

Release Munster, pick up Keary for 700 out of your cap for next two years as a replacement. He still has two years of deal and well positioned to win a prem and pick up another decent contract.

If Roosters could sign Munster for 2022 then maybe they pay as much as 200k of Keary's contract just to make sure he moves. It becomes harder to move him if Storm don't want him and only one year left on his deal.

Honestly I think Roosters are just vicious enough to ditch him, especially if suspect on his knee (which would mean the sooner they move him the less they need to pay towards it).

Mattersons a gun, just the sort of agile offloading weapon we need, with good defence. Worth the risk IMHO. I'm guessing if we sign him, Wadeo be gone but.

if the roosters chipped in half his wages id entertain keary
Last "over the hill" half we got from them didn't turn out too bad.

That said I doubt the Roosters let Volkman go if they were planning on ditching Keary.

That is a genuine premiership pack. Just don't know if we need to spend that money on Matto. **** it would be fun to watch though. So damn fit, fast and agile.

It's good and you could definitely make it work but from a team balance perspective I'd rather

8. Bhu
10. Finucane
11. Teig
12. Nikora OR Matterson
13. Mcinnes

14. Tracey/Hunt
15. Toby
16. Williams
17. Kaufusi

And spend the extra edge money elsewhere.
We've seen some great glimpses from Hunt this season and I expect he will be good bench prop next year.
Arguably without Tracey that bench is a bit 'middle-heavy' but McInnes has played wider this season when needed, Williams and Rudolf at times too.

With Matterson on bench how do you play him? Rest one of our 80 minute middles or our 80 minute 13?
You 100% could use him effectively in this way, but none of them individually need enough of a break to warrant an expensive back up.

I do think at this stage if we have Wilton and Nikora we do need another clear option as 3rd choice edge, but that could be a 16-24 quality player rather than a 1-15 quality player
(as in Matterson is good enough to start or surely in top couple of players on your bench vs 16-24 when you maybe scrape onto the bench or maybe are just game squad quality - I've never referred to a player in this way before so I hope it makes sense haha)

I don't get the love for Matterson. I don't think he is anything special and he's shown himself to be a real mercenary over the years with demands for more money etc.
A mercenary with HIA issues... makes me want to overpay even less.

Tend to agree, not sure we need Matterson and Nikora, one or the other.

Yeah completely agree. For caps sake I'd rather keep Hunt over signing Matto at this stage.

He has been incredible over the last month.

So does that mean we're not looking at Vaughan?

We have
BHU
Dale
Toby
Kaufusi
Hunt
for next season already, I’m guessing no as we probably would keep Tolman & I’m assuming Fifs moves on to ESL or retires?
Hunt isnt signed and is off contract.
Given the choice of Hunt or Vaughan - its be Vaughan every day of the week.
