Even when he wasn't ours, there was something about ennis and how he was a take no prisoners crazy on the field then after the 80 minutes just a regular well spoken joe. Always loved watching him compete.

Hoping he has a role with the club when he retires. Lyal mentioned that in the press conference and fingers crossed it's true.

I don't think it'll be a big role if any. Fox Sports have got big plans with him and Triple M want to make him a more permanent part of their set up. He'll be pretty busy as it is.

We shouldn't be tinkering with the team now with a view to 2017, not when we have a red hot chance to win the thing.

I disagree. What do we have to lose by giving Nu a bench spot for 2 of the next 4-5 games ... a bench spot that may otherwise go to a centre or an extra back rower who may play less than 20 minutes? Surely a retiring Mick Ennis could do with a late game rest once or twice before the finals like the other old blokes have been getting.

What on earth is he thinking considering his form? If we don't get up this year there is every chance of a premiership next year.

I'm very surprised.

As much as we all love our sharkies, it's good to know though, that he has decided to put his family before a game. Good on ya Mick. Now lets send you out a winner!

Dang I am so surprised by this. If Mick happens to read online sharks forums, just hopefully he realises how much we appreciate his impact and professionalism that he added to this club. I hope he continues to be a part of the club in some way, like as a player and gent off field he is exactly the example I want our players to follow.

I'd be hoping this could mean a starting spot for Nu in the 2017 season

Same with me, Would be great if Ennis could mentor him and or become a part of the coaching team or a talent scout.he is such a talented experienced fella.... Still shocked to hear the news.

Hope we keep Nu there is a lot of interest from other clubs.:gal:

Mcillwrick to start with Nu off the bench.

Spend the money on retention elsewhere.

Also, losing a veteran may open the door for Lewis and Heighington to stick around.

It definitely opens up an opportunity for Nu and Brailey to take. If Segeyaro is too loose off field than it's probably not a risk I want to see us taking. It will be interesting to see what our recruiters look for in a new hooker.

It is far too important a position to be lazy with.

Wow! That's a real surprise. This gives us another good reason to win the damn thing this year.
As mentionned by others, I'd give Nu a go in 2017 unless we can get a hold of Peats.

Gutted at his decision, but its just that, his decision.

All year in the back of my head I've thought if we don't take out the premiership in 2016, we will next year.

That task just got a whole lot harder. I hope we rise this year for this champion bloke.

Cant knock a bloke for making his own choices. Forget his pesty grub tactics on the field, the guy is an all-round professional and so many young players should look at him for how he carries himself off the field, and also how serious he takes his footy. Its funny how hated he is cos of sledging and a few dodgy things on the field, usually those people only watch games and dont see him in the media or anything outside of that 80 minutes of footy.

Ennis knows his body, and obviously he feels its time, he has been in 3 grand finals, and only played 1, injured for 2 others. Hopefully we can send him out a winner
