What does everyone think of maybe nabbing Austin now and having a crack at any top half off contract in 2016 (Hunt, Reynolds etc) to partner him?

Probably the best we could do with what's available, and not completely unrealistic. Holdsworth and Robson don't really do it for me.
I like the look of him.

I can imagine Gus proclaiming him to be an "Origin Player" ie Greg Bird.

I think Austin is overrated in here by quite a long way but we are in a desperate situation. I would offer him more than he's worth but only on a one year deal. That way we can still pursue Hunt/Reynolds/Sezer for 2016. If Austin performs next year offer him a longer contract partnering (hopefully) one of the three mentioned. If he isn't up to scratch in the halves, which is what I'm expecting, no real damage.

I'm the complete opposite to you on this one HB. I think you over-rate Sezer.

But each to their own

From what I've read it seems he wants to be a starting 5/8. I reckon he'd come here for sure if we offered a start in the halves.

I never really rated Ben Hunt until this year, when he exploded in form. I think, if given the chance to be a starting half for an extended period like Hunt has, Austin could really impress. If he doesn't, no big deal. But moving forward, we need someone other than Holdsworth and Robson for sure.

I like him, might go ok with Brown in the halves. Would be a better option for next year than what we have now.

I agree with Everton that you could sign him for 2, maybe even 3 years.

Try him next year with Nu and see what happens.

If he doesn't work out as a half then I think he could be used elsewhere, perhaps as a lock or just some kind of general bench utility.

I don't think it would be a high risk signing, unless you end up paying big money, of course.

I think you could easily have him on the books and still pursue another halfback, if need be.

A lot depends on whether Nu plays hooker or halves long term too.

Yep. But it's pretty easy to be flexible.

You could also keep Austin at 6 and move Nu to the bench to rotate with Ennis if you want to move him towards the hooking role. That would also allow a new 7 to come in.

I reckon Sezer does that. Anyway, we could sign someone from the Lithgow Shamrocks and they couldn't do any worse than Robbo. So embarrassing.
I don't think Sezers a bad player if its coming across like that by the way. For some reason its obvious to all but our coaching staff and jimbob that robson is useless.

Haha true that. We all know Robbo will be halfback with supercoach returning. Looking forward to an innovative game plan next year

What's scarier is that Holdsworth will more than likely partner him. Can't see Flanno thinking otherwise
