My sneaky 5 dollars on the sharkies has paid for some of my origin beers, thanks boys!

On the game itself, that's the first back to back wins of the season and are probably two of the greatest victories we have ever had.

I dare say only a grand final win will ever trump tonight's game. Rugby league magic.

What a win. Watching the 2nd half at Northies was crazy.

Gagan is the real deal. Starting to like the look of our backline for the first time in a long time.

At no stage did an Andrew Johns or a Paul Gallen say Todd Carney was nothing more than a mug

SOMETHING much worse than Todd Carney urinating into his mouth in a public toilet happened this week.

The lunatics proved they are running the asylum when Carney’s teammates, former players who call themselves commentators, and a feral fan base decided that the deeply troubled footballer should not be punished for his sins.

Their response to such a foul act was that Carney had every right to urinate in private and to share the humour of drinking his own urine with his mates. That one of them was using a mobile phone to capture it all on camera was just a spot of bad luck for all of those involved.

Todd Carney was sacked after a lewd photo went viral.

Todd Carney was sacked after a lewd photo went viral.

At no stage did an Andrew Johns, a Paul Gallen, a Danny Weidler say Carney was nothing more than a mug who had already used up all his lives with such bad behaviour over a period of five years that this time he didn’t deserve a semblance of forgiveness.

The so-called exclusive from Weidler on Nine plumbed new depths of “independent” reporting. Carney called on his mate to show how remorseful he was, to beg forgiveness, while he shed a tear for his mother who’d had to sit back and take in another round of rubbish from her son.

At no stage during the beachside chat was he placed over a Bunsen burner with some tough questions about what the hell he thought he was doing in a public toilet performing a degrading act, or why he thought it was all a big fat joke.

Rugby league reached new depths this week, despite the official response from the NRL and the Cronulla Sharks. The sport has become a sanctuary for a large group of athletes who don’t believe in normal standards of behaviour.

Many of those who play it are lost in a fog of fame, big fat contracts and deluded fans.

A privileged few ex-players are handed big media deals and spend the rest of their careers apologising for their sport and those who use it to protect themselves from sanctions others accept as normal.

I mean, you couldn’t possibly sack Carney for that, Johns intoned on Sunday’s Footy Show. He was joined by a line-up of mates who pushed out the “boys will be boys’’ line to anyone who cared to listen.

The Sharks, already on their knees, decided to back their fun-loving mate. One after another lined up on Carney’s doorstep to heap praise and sympathy on their friend, who had been so hard done by when he was dumped.

To prove my point that Cronulla have lost their way, the entire team didn’t bother turning up for training because “they were in the wrong head space”. The coach, the very decent Peter Sharp, walked away from his interim job, completely and utterly over the lot of them.

Peter Sharp quit as interim Sharks coach.

Peter Sharp quit as interim Sharks coach.

He’d had to endure a public bake from captain Paul Gallen, and then found himself staring at an empty field during a scheduled training session.

That the Sharks are facing doping sanctions and the wooden spoon does not bode well for any half-decent coach to fill in until the already disgraced mentor, Shane Flanagan, returns to the fold.

Reports this week that Laurie Daley and Tim Sheens were considering the job were fanciful. Unsurprisingly, neither man is remotely interested. So if you think this is an unholy mess, you wouldn’t be far off the mark.

Then again, you’re unlikely to be a Cronulla fan — 1500 of whom saw fit to sign a petition this week to have Carney reinstated.

NRL bosses say Carney is unlikely to ever be awarded a contract again. His football mates and his shameless manager, David Riolo, are already angling to find Carney a future somewhere, anywhere, in football.

The sad facts are that someone will probably give him a contract. So diabolical has the world of professional league become that there is no longer a real sense of right and wrong to be found in many places around this sport.

After three decades covering — and loving — rugby league, this week was one of the worst. The glass has been half full for too long. It’s time for a serious reality check. The sport is bleeding, its moral fibre fractured.

Which other sport allows one of its completely wayward stars the luxury of a third chance at redemption? That the opportunity to come good was sacrificed so brazenly in a public toilet says that parts of this sport are rotten to the core and a long, long way from ever being right again.

She is just a bitter twisted woman.

It's funny that she of all people used the glass half full analogy!

Why is the sport going down the ****ter you ask?

Because over-opinionated reporters such as yourself rebecca dwell on every tiny negative headline.
Love or hate the footy show they mentioned it for about 2 minutes then moved on.

Cronulla has just had one of the greatest turn around wins in league history, it will get a 1 page write up in the paper. If you want the sport to be held in high regard, ****ing write about the good things!! Its not hard. Spruik the sport to the world. There is so many great head lines and moments just on the field, let alone stories like phil gould opening the doors to a young guy with a broken neck to help him rehab his injury and will pay his uni fees so he can be a teacher, or a north sydney bears player savings a young girls life in the surf on the mid north coast.

The media has the most control over the image of this sport. They choose to emphasise the drama and half report the heroics.

Beccy mentions sharpe stared at a training paddock with no players. No, sharpe was at a specialist appointment, rumoured to be cos of a dodgy ticker. Why are the sharks players in the bad head space? Because yourself, massound and hooper basically said the club killed jon mannah. As soon as the todd episode occured the sharks stood no chance. Beccy has had it in for todd for years.

Journalists or whatever they call themselves will kill the sport. As shown by the sharks tonight the sport is bigger than 1 guy. So why must the press place such importance on individuals all the time. Report the game, not the theatrics

If Rothfield is a true Sharks fan, he should come out tomorrow and put a sword through the tripe Bourbon wrote!
I hope you just read that Phil!
Put your pen where your heart is and right the wrongs being written by your so called colleagues. If you have the balls!
