Beau Ryan will play right wing. No question. And so he should- he's a poor centre but a quality winger who will actually be able to keep up with Carney.

If Pom is out, maybe Gardner will get a shot. It'll be interesting to see who the Titans pick on the wing... they've got some rookies. Big, quick rookies though.

2. SHARKS FORWARDS

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has enough depth in the forwards to field two separate packs. He has a plethora of back-rowers at his disposal, including Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis, Chris Heighington, Anthony Tupou, Wade Graham and Jayson Bukuya. Despite losing prop Bryce Gibbs for three months after he suffered an Achilles injury in the trial match against Newcastle last weekend, Flanagan said he wouldn't use Gallen in the front row. The Sharks coach is confident in the depth of the big men at his disposal, with Andrew Fifita, Ben Ross, Mark Taufua, Jon Green and Sam Tagataese all fighting for the starting positions. Given the fact John Morris will occupy one bench position, three of the players mentioned will miss out on selection for the opening round clash against the Gold Coast Titans.

I would think it would play out in the order the mention players, fifita an Ross to start an Taufua bench prop..With gibbs out.. I wonder if it would be better to start Morris at 9 an use degois from the bench for impact as has been discussed on here before ..

All in all not long now until we see some sharks action!!

Gardner on the wing is a smoky and Flanno doesn't do smokies.

Only way I can see Gards on the wing for round 1 is if Beau's knee doesn't repair as quickly as expected

I'd be very surprised if Gardner is on the wing.

I also wonder how much loyalty he might show to someone like Matt Wright.

I think it will be:

1) Gordon
2) Stapleton
3) Leutele
4) J. Wright
5) Ryan
6) Carney
7) Robson
8) Taufua
9) De Gois
10) Ross
11) Heighnington
12) Lewis
13) Gallen (c)

14) Fifita
15) Morris
16) Tupou
17) Graham
18) Bukuya
19) Green
20) Townsend

Its not what I'd pick but I think its what we'll see. Flano seemed to like starting Taufua last year, Tupou and Robson to get the nod over Bukuya and Townsend and Heighno to start over Graham.

And Carney to be a late omission with Townsend coming in at 6.
