Kelly not starting in the halves is just like Poms on starting in the centres like last year. It will last 1 game then he will be there till the end.

Kelly really needs to put a case forward for the utility spot on the bench, competing with Robson and Morris etc.

If he can do a good job at this by putting his head down and work hard, he can then press ahead for a starting spot.

This is much like the course that Ben Barba took and Kelly should see this and attempt to do likewise.

Its about earning respect from your team mates and coach and putting consistent form on the paddock and behaving in a mature fashion off the paddock.

Its up to him.

You know, a season in reserve grade for Kelly won't hurt him. He is still young and obviously still immature. Give him a to spot before his time and he will become complacent, give it to him when he's ready and deserves it, then he'll keep it the rest of his career.

A season in NSW cup won't hurt him but it might hurt us. If he is committed to getting his act together on & off the field & is playing out of his skin, he should be reinstated in 1st grade.

We can't have hard & fast rules about selections, otherwise he really has nothing to play / improve for.

i agree, plus i think kelly has the potential to be very dangerous coming on agaisnt a tiring defence.
but like you said he has to prove himself first, atm both robinson & morris would be ahead of him for
the unitility bench spot.
like you suggested i think he has the potential to develop in to ben barba style impact player.

this is the team that i think we will have come round 1
1 gardner
2 williams
3 best
4 poms
5 mills
6 graham
7 carney
8 ross
9 de gois
10 gibbs
11 smith
12 bakuya
13 gallen
bench- fifita, taga, toops, & either robinson or morris
i personally would prefer to see poms replaced by one of young guys. but this team is pretty close to the one that
will run out for us in round 1

Green will have to be on the bench somewhere. I'd actually have Toops in the Starting lineup and Green on the Bench. I don't think Bakuya has done enough at this stage.

FFS Gosharkies. Did AB not clarify the guys name a few posts ago. Surely you know by now what his name is.

Matt Wright will be in there somewhere.

Also one of Taufua or Green will be on the bench.

i would prefer to have wright play centre instead of poms, but i think poms will be there in
round 1. i agree that taufua & green would be contention for a bench spot but who would you leave
of the bench i named to make a spot for one of them.

A name forward is gonna miss out. There's just too many options there. But I'm not man enough to predict who.

The bench you suggested is the same as what I suggested in the off season, but now I think it doesn't have any legitimate prop forwards.

When Ross and Gibbs both go off we can't just bring on Fifita and Tagatese.

Thats why Green and/or Taufua are certainties IMO.

As I said at the start, somebody big is gonna miss out.

And can I just add something I've said before for all the Hot Dog fans out there.

If Flanno goes for Best and Pomm, then I don't think J Williams will be there.

Mills and Wright are ahead of Hot Dog IMO, just on potential alone.

I hope one of them is picked in the centres for Round 1.

But will it happen?

I still believe hotdog is our best winger, at the moment. But with the fact that he was bought for his goal kicking, and now Carney has taken that role i believe, i don't think it would take much for someone to over take him.

i just like annoying you teflon77

I'm not really a spelling Nazi- language is fluid, it changes, so what- but spelling a name wrong is disrespectful in my book. And its not like is Penani Manumalealii or something either. Its Robson! Two syllables, a basic Anglo name.

Green will have to be on the bench somewhere. I'd actually have Toops in the Starting lineup and Green on the Bench. I don't think Bakuya has done enough at this stage.

I think Flano showed last year that he things Toops is a bench player (and I agree). And I think Bukuya did a whole lot more than Tupou last year.

Honestly, if Tupou hadn't played Origin/Australia when Sticky was coach, how many people would say he's a better all round player than our two young backrowers in Bukuya and Frizell? I would struggle to. He's got a great offload and some tricky bits of ballplay, but he doesn't make the yards of the others, misses more tackles and drops more ball. I like the guy and have been a big supporter of his during his time here but he's the forward under the most pressure IMO.

I also prefer Taufua to Green. More dangerous with the ball.
