Should we sign Carney or not? Yes or No?

What sucks to me is the media grabbing at this. See the Todds Shark Alarm article in the Tele today? What a lame excuse for an article. 9 local drinking establishments pinpointed on a google earth map. 9! Do they not realise that the cross has plenty more than 9, and if anything the Shire is a better environment than Bondi if your trying to keep on the straight and narrow.

That was one of the most pathetic stories I have ever read in my life, is this type of BS going to follow him for the rest of his career.

Absolute gutter journalism. At least get the Taren Point Hotel picture correct

Can't they come up with something at least 1/2 decent.

But then again, it gives the media (news limited) another chance to drag the Sharks down......you tossers.

the Carney signing may put bums on seats but i doubt it will translate into memberships for some time. and in that time we need:
a) results; and:
b) carney to:
i) not be a ********/cause too much bad publicity
ii) develop a positive relationship with the people of the shire

i say this purely because he does have such a crap public image. it's all good for you guys, footy tragics, to rave about his skillz and how he hasn't really done that much wrong, which by and large is true (in recent times). but, to the average joe, the people who probably need some persuasion to go to a game, they still think he's a ********. in fact, i can't think of a single non-sharks fan who has said "awww man you guys are gunna get Carney, lucky ducks"...it has been quite the opposite, in my experience.

so look, i'm still not stoked on the prospect of him signing but i'm just going to have to live with it. i'll support whoever's in the jersey, but i'm gunna be realistic for a second here people: Carney is not the saviour of the Sharks so stop carrying on like he's the ****ing messiah. he's not the messiah. he's just a naughty boy! (sorry, Monty Python)

But what it also does is puts the Sharks name out there. Todd Carney/Sharks, will be in the papers alot over the next few weeks/months. People will be wanting to see what happens to him on and off the field, so more people will watch or attend games. Think about the Roosters V Sharks games next year.Roosters fans will come in their 1000s to taunt him. Pain in the arse yes, More revenue, yes

What we need is Sunday afternoon games, easier said than done though obviously.

If we're to rely largely on gate takings Sundays are the best,

if we're forced into night games in the middle of winter then we deserve a bigger cut of the television revenue

How can the Daily Tele not include Hunters in a list of the shire's most notorious drinking spots?

What the new TV rights deal should include is EQUAL free to air games for all teams.

Think about it, Brisbane and Saint George, and Tigers ruled friday night/sunday arvo footy this year. Then Sharks comes across the Dragons, monday night game. Sharks play Brisbane, delayed friday night game, Sharks play Tigers Saturday night game.

I think we only played 2 free to air games this year. Compared to teams like Saints and Brisbanes Dozen or more. Sure they were top 8 teams/premiership winners/favourites, whatever. Its not fair on other teams, and not just the Sharks

How can the Daily Tele not include Hunters in a list of the shire's most notorious drinking spots?

Or the Woronora RSL

Maybe teams should get financial rewards according to TV ratings as well as gate takings.

If the Sharks are providing the entertainment it means they are a very important component of the NRL's business structure, I think this facet is grossly undervalued

Before anyone else says it, wrong thread for this statement lol

Well thats the thing. Less free to air games means less people watch the Sharks, what if, the Sharks played that All time game against the Dragons this year on free to air. So many more people would have witnessed it, maybe a few new fans made, members even.

carney = more free-to-air games = more exposure = more sponsorship $$

people want to watch him to see if he will succeed or fail, it is what reality television is built on.

It does put the name out there, just not in a nice way.

But I suppose we get used to negative press/media anyway, as this only makes us stronger.

I liken it like that movie (egyptian type I think) were there is a bugle player on top of the hill, no matter how many times they shot him he still keeps playing all the way to the end.
