I don't blame Lockyer for the loss but I think it's becoming evident that there are better options. He's going to have to call it a day himself, because no-one is going to pay him the disrespect of sacking him.

I think NSW will win origin next year if they have him at 5/8.

totally agree, either way i think the blues can win next year. i was very impressed with carney last week.

Glad I missed the game. Sounds woeful from all reports, especially Lote's performance.

How did Gal play? Heard he put a good shot on someone?

Kiwis Used Dirty Tactics: Shillington

Kiwis Used Dirty Tactics: Shillington
Wayne Heming
AAP Sun,
14 Nov 2010 15:37:46

Giant Canberra prop David Shillington left no doubt he is ready to take over Petero Civoniceva's role in the Australia front-row after engaging in trench warfare with New Zealand in Saturday night's Four Nations final.

Nursing a golf ball size lump on his forehead and other facial cuts, Shillington and Adam Blair came to blows to ignite an all-in brawl seconds after referee Tony Archer blew for halftime with the game locked up at 6-6.

Shillington later accused the Kiwis of employing some "dirty tactics" on the way to their 16-12 upset over a battered Kangaroos side in Brisbane.

Kiwi utility Isaac Luke was placed on report by Archer for an unusual incident in the 29th minute in which he appeared to twist winger Lote Tuqiri's foot.

"They had a few dirty tactics, twisting knees and elbows," fired Shillington.

"One of them kneed Billy Slater in the head at the end of the first half and they pushed Nate Myles.

"I pushed Adam Blair and it was on after that... but that happens in Test football, everyone plays pretty aggressively.

"I don't think that (brawl) changed the game either way."

Slater, who came up with another big game clanger five minutes from full time spilling a Benji Marshall bomb under his posts, wouldn't confirm he'd copped a knee to the head before the fight broke out near the sideline on half time.

"The whole Four Nations tournament's been a bit like that. I think we've given as good as we've got." said Slater whose 58th minute try followed some good lead-up work by former Cronulla teammates Paul Gallen and Greg Bird.

"I'm not complaining about something like that."

Shillington said he and the players felt pretty bad about letting captain Darren Lockyer down in his last Test in Australia on his home ground.

"Everyone's upset for Locky," he said.

"I know the boys think they let him down a little bit and than we let each other down as well.

"We've got a lot to play for next year when the Four Nations Cup will be on the line again.

"Hopefully we can get it back with Locky as skipper."

Gallen Had No Complaints Over Passes

Gallen Had No Complaints Over Passes
Wayne Heming
November 14, 2010 - 3:29PM

Battle-scarred Australian forward Paul Gallen dismissed suggestions New Zealand had pulled off its thrilling 16-12 Four Nations victory with one or possibly two forward passes in its last-ditch match-winning try.

Controversy reigned over halfback Nathan Fien's 80th-minute miracle try which involved speculative overhead passes from winger Jason Nightingale and five-eighth Benji Marshall as an exhausted Australia, hit by two key first-half injuries to Brent Tate and Luke Lewis, were out on their feet.

While the Cronulla enforcer described the try that stole the final as "freaky" he had no complaints about the two passes that set it up.

"You can't call that forward with a minute to go. If it was us, I wouldn't have expected the referee to call it forward," said Gallen.

"Have a look at their first try (Shaun Kenny-Dowall off Marshall), now that was forward," he laughed.

"At half time (6-all) it was one of those games that was made for us to come out and show a lot of character and win it.

"We did that, everyone busted their backsides but a freaky play in probably the last play of the game got them the win.

"We were running out of troops, everyone was busted a lot of blokes had to play a lot of minutes they don't normally play.

"It was the last play of the game, on fifth tackle, and they threw two no-look passes that came off.

"They sun was shining on them.

"The (first) ball got thrown back in (by Nightingale) straight through Locky's hands and then they throw another no-looker, it's just something that happens."

While it was clear Gallen and teammates such as Darren Lockyer and Billy Slater, who experienced the pain of 2008 were gutted by the defeat, the Sharks skipper showed he had not lost his sense of humour.

Asked if it was the lowest feeling he'd experienced in rugby league he replied: "Mate, I've played 30 games this year, come second last (premiership) and lost an Origin series, I'm probably a bit used to it at the moment which isn't a good thing."

"But we'll be back next year."

Hooker Cameron Smith, who led Australia's defence with almost 50 tackles, said New Zealand were showing they had improved a lot on the international stage.

"It was a sombre dressing room tonight after the game. It was just a heartbreaker," he said.

"To play under the circumstances we did for the majority of the game (with two players injured) and to be up by two (points) with less than two minutes left ..... to have that try scored against you on their last tackle, it's pretty hard to take.

"But that's footy and we have to be gracious in defeat and cop it on the chin."

there is a half back off contract for 2012, natha fien, sign him.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're taking the piss.

So did any one see australias first try come after Morris stepped in touch?

There were 3 no-tries in that game. The Morris one you mention due to the foot on the line. Then the SKD try off the forward pass and I reckon there was a forward pass in the final try too.

I was under the impression that an International final might be a good place to use the best refs the game has to offer. I really hope that wasn't the intention.

I watched this game and while it seemed like a close contest, I fully expected the Kangaroos to win. Imagine my suprise in the last couple of minutes!! I thought Gallen did himself proud, although I was worried that he was injured a couple of times there. I didnt realise Greg Bird was playing until the last 15 mins or so - was that the only game time he had?

I'll just console myself with the fact that International RL is better off with another country having a few trophies and titles to their names - rather than The Kangaroos dominating everything, all the time.... right? RIGHT??

I've found that around here you can tell whether a player is quality or not by judging who hates them around here.

In Lewis's case he's unliked around here mainly because he had the audacity to win the 2010 Dally M Lock of the Year award over Gallen.

Lewis had a few years finding his place in the game when he outgrew the wing. He's now one of the best ball playing backrowers in the game who can be handy as a fill-in 5/8 too. He's deceptively quick and can change direction beautifully. His ability to mix it up between rolling the sleeves up and running a hard line, using quick feet before the line, ball playing before the line or playing through the line makes him a hell of a handful. He's got a bit of a short kicking game in his arsenal too and he's just as valuable in defense.

Err WTF? Lewis isn't unliked because of that. Infact, I don't mind him. But he was crap. Sorry.
