The plan is (I'm guessing):
2011: Smith/Barrett
2012: Smith/Kelly
2013/14: Townsend/Kelly, if Townsend keeps improving and Smith becomes too expensive to keep salary cap wise.

Sounds like Townsend is doing really well. Given he is still young I like the idea of giving him some time to develop and coming into grade in 2013-14. He would only be 22-23 by then right?

Got to watch NYC on telly again today.

Townsend was okay off the back of a badly beaten pack. I'm a little concerned that he may have the same problems that Smith has re:running, and I don't think he'll be ready for 1st grade for at least another 2 years. He missed having Kelly outside him actually. Good field kicker though.

What's your hopes on Townsend? I have watched him a few times now (shame to see him hurt today) and he seems good, but a few people on here act like he is gonna come real good in the future. What makes people think he is of that quality?

Smith is useless.

He has his head screwed on properly unlike Mr Albert "thinks he is king ****" Kelly

Townsend is the perfect prototype half back. Right body shape, great kicking game, his head is switched on etc.

Kelly IMO is similar but for 5/8.

I really like the idea of them as a pairing. They compliment each other well.

Great future ahead for our 6/7 rotation. Kelly is a true 6, he loves to take the line on and has a great long kicking game. Much like Barrett, but has more flair in his attack while not being as good in defense.

Where as Townsend is your typical halfback. Great passing, good long kick and superb short kicking game. Sometimes he needs to take the line on more, but makes the right decision most of the time. He is always yapping on the field too. Telling the forwards where to be and generally just directing the team like he should.

They are perfect for each other if they can reach their potential. I know I'm going to be thrown into the fire for this, but if Barrett retires and we don't sign Finch/Graham or any other half for the matter I wouldn't mind seeing Kelly/Townsend in the havles for the majority of the year. Sometimes players need to be shown that the coach is confident in their ability. Throw them in the deep end I say.

Sounds good. Like I've said I've watched all the televised Toyota Cup games this year and I'm liking what I see from him. Here's hoping he keeps improving
