At least he can figure out how to post places though
Now doubt we have some time to spare .
BUT , at some stage decisions will have to be made as to what/who compliments the rest of the pack

For 2025 I don’t think there are many decisions to be made. Just re-sign Jack Williams soon and they are good. Hard to see them only giving him one year and while there are some good middles in the system none are close to NRL… so for 2026 I’d say you need to have 10–11 blokes from…

AFB, BHU, Rudolf, Colquhoun (+ Williams)

**

McInnes + 2 of Hazelton, Hunt, THT
(Finucane retired)

**

3 who are in the pathways currently. Plenty to choose from but way too early to say. For all the talk about Pele, Vasquez and Martin they never made it, but five blokes most fans had never heard of when they were 20 did (BHU, Rudolf, JJ, Hazelton and Colquhoun).

This season hinges on the fitness of Hynes and Trindall

We don't have Moylan anymore and not even Connor Tracey or Wade Graham to slot in on a whim yet alone cover a long term out in the halves.

Our available halves depth in Puru & Atkinson is a massive step down in quality and experience.

Getting Dykes fit will be key be he is still very raw and will take time to get his confidence and groove back. Want to see him getting game time in lower grades as soon as possible in-case we need to call on him. He was very reserved and hesitant in the trials which wouldn't cut it in FG.

Showed alot of promise last season though
@Gards probably a conversation for the General Sharks thread rather than the round 1 thread.

Agree though. Halves depth a big question mark.
Could say the same for most sides. Panthers and Warriors may be able to handle losing their 6, but outside of that I see either half going down as season over for most other sides. Newcastle might escape too but only because all their halves are just as average as their back ups.
Most teams who lose their main guy would struggle, but some cover the other guy better than others. I don't think anyone would believe the Sharks could be a contender without Hynes, but it would be nice to think they had a competent replacement for 2-3 weeks should Tricky roll an ankle or something.

Sharks fans have been spoilt for a few years because Tricky was close to the top of the list for non-starting NRL halves. The trials have shown us that Atkinson and Puru aren't that.

S.O.S. the great man Billy Magoulias?

Anyone know if we still have the resale of member seats that can't make certain games this season?

We do. They sent an email earlier in the year. I didn't overly look into the details, as I'm unlikely to utilise it, but it was there.
Cheers mate. Bloody hard to buy tickets other than on the hill, pretty much nothing left.

Due to contract extensions and after reading Dan's Zero Tackle above article , moving forward it seems AFB , BHU , Toby are locked into top 17 props .
Which other Props do we keep with an eye to say 2026 ?
I'd want to keep Hazo and that young up and comer Tuku Hau Tapuha no matter what , with as stated say Jesse Colquhoun groomed for lock.
Going to get interesting if we can ONLY keep 2 others .
Who would you choose ?

I still see no reason we shouldn't keep them all.

Interesting Dino was over there (to meet billionaire, right?) but we didn’t get involved in this?

Perhaps he preferred being back for season start?
Or maybe weren’t as confident as this guy being quoted was about their ability to learn to tackle to a suitable standard quickly enough to be relevant.
I’d almost preference nfl defensive players.

Depends on position I reckon.

Is what middle forwards do always considered tackling? More like cuddle, hold, wait for help. That doesn't require a lot of technique. Cutting down a guy around the legs as he tries to beat you on the outside though. Yep - need some technique for that one. You'd want a bloke who had at least played some defence coming through the system (yet another argument for junior athletes to not over-specialise).

I'm sceptical until I see an athlete transition from another sport as an adult though. We've seen enough guys fail to transition from Rugby Union, which is at least close mechanically. There is obviously more to being good at RL than being able to run and tackle.

Gus talked about this on his podcast last year. He said it defies logic that the only people in the world who can take hit-ups and make tackles happen to be born in a 2000km stretch along the Eastern seaboard of Australia... but unless a player learns fundamental RL skills as a teenager he won't learn them.

I played against that American bloke the Knights brought out in the 90's. Greg Smith. He was pretty ordinary.
