How do you rate this podcast generally? Wouldn't mind a decent general NRL poddy to add to the list
Pretty good, I quite like it. Most eps are on the shorter side, usually 10-20mins or so, but they’re usually on a specific current topic and he puts them out pretty frequently, sometimes a few a day. And he strangely does t support a particular team (which I find bizarre) but it’s good because his content isn’t biased towards or against any particular club.

He’s also on the Bloke in a Bar Monday podcast, which is probably my favourite general NRL pod.

Good lil snippet, some damning facts 4 those that think he brings nothing in attack. Sort out defence between trindal Wilton and Sifa would be dreamy.

He is pretty clued in in general, but particularly knowledgeable about lower graders and up and comers.

He tends to release a lot of short clips on his podcast - if you are interested in the subject matter of one, they are usually decent, but if you just let them play through he goes on all sorts of tangents.
Often has segments where he monologs random teams under different stipulations he has set himself, or just some other random thing that has happened to talk about for 5 minutes as his 'reaction'.

For me his best work is definitely with Kempy and crew on Bloke in a Bar where he actually has people to talk to.

(toomuchsoups reply didn't load for me until after I posted, but pretty much on same thoughts there!)

Any other suggestions for general NRL podcasts? I like the 20min length!

Here’s an interesting take from the RL Guru on Sifa
Thanks for posting that.

He seems to have captured the to and fro we see on the forum. Essentially, some think Sifa must go because he can't defend reliably on an edge, and others think that if you move Sifa you might be throwing out the baby with the bath water (yardage carries and setting up his winger).

But Iro could just attack better, he always does well at attack in Cup.
And he might defend better too, because of being given an opportunity

Could? Might? Not exactly sure are we? I don't profess to have all the answers in this debate but I'll back Fitz and support whoever he picks in Round 1.

Only way to find out is to promise Iro a start for the first half of the season! Nothing to lose but meters and try assists

One slight correction from the podcast... Sifa did actually play quite a bit of centre at the Jets in 2019. I don't think he was named there many times but it was really common for Matterson to do a switcheroo at kick-off and start him there wearing #12, or for him to move mid-game. Often he'd move due to injury, but Matterson would also do weird **** like replace a winger with a forward and move Sifa to centres.

If I had to guess I'd say Sifa played centre at some point in at least 1/3 of the Jets game that year.

I thought Sifa came to us from Souths as a centre?

Yeah. Centre when younger. Podcast says that.

He played 2018 at Penrith’s NSW Cup. Was mostly back row.

Just clarifying a small thing from the pod where he said Sifa wasn’t playing centre at the Jets. He was sometimes.

Can’t think of many 20min ones but the bye round with James Graham is pretty good.

“Fire Up” is quite funny, it use to be a show on FBI radio but it just a podcast now. Not your typical Rugby League type of show, a bit more of an ‘inner west’ style of podcast, if that makes sense….

The Rugby League Digest is amazing if you want to hear a deeeeeep dive into EVERY single aspect of the Super League war. A fascinating series that has more hours to listen to than you could ever imagine.

Levels with Justin Horo and Willie Mason is okay. Not amazing but I find they have a different perspective to a lot of other pods a lot of the time.

And of course the greatest of the podcasts, the Sharkcast and Fins Up

second this. he was named in the second row but most the games i watched he either started centre or was moved there early on due to an injury. he was a beast and played on the right quite a bit from memory. worked with a guy that moved up from souths and he raved about him, also said the hardest hit he ever coped was from one j brailey

From the Roar

Siosifa Talakai was a noted weakness. He one of the worst in the comp among regular centres for Line Breaks Caused (LBC), a measure of bad reads.

Ironically, he sits right next to Morgan Harper, whom he famously gave a bath in Anzac Round of 2022.

Normally, one could suggest that this is a function of the way that the team plays, in the sense that defeat in the middle is felt out wide, but on the other side, Jesse Ramien has no such troubles. He’s one of the best defensive centres around.

Talakai is also second last for one-on-one tackles, just worse than Justin Olam, who was dropped from the Storm, a challenger to the Sharks, for his poor defence, and worse than Joseph Suaalii, whom the Roosters shifted away from the centres for the same reason.
