Luai is gone for mine. I also think that the money he will get is WAY too much. I actually think the rumoured $850k Penrith are offering is about right for him.

I don’t think Penrith will have any issues without him either. They have consistently shown they can bring another man up. Their signing of Dan Laurie I actually think will work out. He looked very dangerous at times for the Tigers last year at 5/8. I think he can slot into Luai’s role well enough to make it not worth Penriths time keeping him.

Cleary is so good a fringe level player like him with promise can easily be enough & play well above their actual ability. They will struggle if Cleary is out though, but that can be said for every team with their star.

I tend to agree though, I don’t think Luai will be the answer for them. Tbh if I was a Tigers fan I’d rather throw a slightly smaller contract at Deardan. I think he’s got a much better mentality to help turn them around.

We don’t know what deal he’s on, most has to be 80k+, not more than anyone in top 30 and no put us out of tier 2 cap. Could be on 120k he was on last year. Same money as last year and easy for us to bump him to min if needed. If he stays dev and plays more than 3 games he’d actually make more than min in this instance.

Why would he take an extra 10k to move to another club over that deal?

You’d think he’d take an extra 50k if that was what was on the table. But not a lot of clubs hungry for a 5th choice fullback/centre/winger either
Backs and spine they’d rather try for a junior

I’ve always rated him as solid and reliable, but the games he played last year he was actually damaging. I thought he had gone up a level. I’m very happy he’s sticking around, but if I’m rebuilding at the dragons I’m offering Hiroti 200k to come over. Their backline is pretty woeful.

Api is a good recruit. They do have a **** record though.

I think they’ll be a force because I don’t see them not being the best defensive side but personally I felt they weren’t as good in attack with no Api and now with no Luai it might be harder. Teams can solely focus on shutting down Cleary a bit more- which I know is easier said than done.
