He got a $250k payout... and I'd doubt he have any chance of getting the NRL to register a contract with the Dolphins next year.

Not sure, maybe it has something to do with getting the contract off the books and out of the cap? Seems pretty generous for a guy who wants to leave though...

Would be weird to pay him out if he retired.
If they were trying to block him boxing despite there being nothing in his contract to prevent it I can see how they end up including some payout in the split.
It's not a proper retirement, more going to explore another sport. When Gal retired we knew he'd never come back, when SBW skipped out to Union he didn't really 'retire'. Both also explored boxing but one fully retired from League when he left. Every chance TPJ does and SBW and comes back.
Pay out suggestion was put to TPJ and I'd say he kind of dodged it - Sparkles I think it was brought up by Danny Weidler
