And Luai's pass. Terrible.
That was a shocker
Don’t really like him but besides that he plays okay but we really need a second half that can really impact a game. DCE/Munster/Hunt all impact game more than Luai

When behind I just don’t see Luai doing enough to threaten game

Won't be long before Burton takes over.

Also thought his taunting Cobbo was pretty poor form.

Yeah was thinking that, needed more of his kicks and he’s playing 6 week to week now.

Was poor form by him taunting, he is knob, but was pretty shocked Qld chose to go at him over the top of Cobbo

Should have been in the bin twice
If your talking about the swinging arm with intent into Burtons head after about 10 minutes - yep, WTF. Why did the bunker not confirm it was intentional hit to the head while Burton was being assessed. Complete BS the grub did not go for 10.

I found the QLD bias hard to watch tonight.

That was pretty bad and certain 10 in an NRL game.

Also looked an awful lot like a punch from Arrow in one tackle

I agree any other game Tino goes for 10. Because we're strict and very concerned about concussions, right? But any other game and Burton is sent for HIA as well.

I think we all accept and enjoy that origin is refereed differently. You can be a bit offside, tackle a bloke a bit late, push your luck a bit more in the ruck – basically it's not as nit picky as regular games, finals get similar treatment. But these aren't rules that are in place and harshly ruled on for player safety unlike high tackles.

I think my point here is for all the HIA, independent doctor, concussion protocol fuss the game has become tangled in round to round, if it's all a medical/player safety thing then that surely can't change because its origin. If best practice says a forearm to the jaw in round 7 should result in a sin bin for the hitter and a HIA for the victim how can that change? Does the medical advice around concussion and the doctors enforcing change for origin? If I break my arm in round 7 would the doctor treat it differently because it wasn't origin?

I think this game also showed the hype and awe around the occasional monster kick from Cleary or Burton is overstated. DCE and Hunt didn't need any of that.

Queensland decided how they wanted to approach this series, picked a squad accordingly and stuck at it.

New South Wales feel like they pick the core of the most successful NSW side at the time, fill the rest with whoever has been most talked up in the media and go at it. If it doesn't work, they baulk and mess around with too much.

Sifa should not have been anywhere near a NSW jersey. To run him out as a middle in origin was shown up immediately – he missed his first defensive assignment. Yeah he tried hard and even made some good effort plays to close some gaps and I think force an error as well but QLD were waiting for him and targeted him.

Sifa works really well at centre in the sharks system at NRL level. Asking him to play origin in the middle with a mostly Penrith system is silly – that's not what he's proven to be good at. Basically NSW need to stop selecting players on current hype, figure out a style and pick players who fit. They have a wealth of talent to pick from and I think that often gets in the way of picking the right squad for the job.

Agree. I thought we showed that v the Bulldogs last week.

Tupou stuff that kick up at the end of the first half - looked like a lollipop compared to Burton's kick.

Burton looks like he could kick the ball from the middle of Australia into another state... But good luck picking which state it lands in. If the defence can't catch those whoppers, his chasers aren't much hope either – absolute lottery.

On the opposite side we saw controlled, strategic and targeted kicking from Hunt and DCE.

Agree with your points - pretty sure Sifa came onto the left edge and Angus moved into the middle .

Sifa has always had some misses while defending on an an edge but his effort was great on a few other occasions ..

The 40/20 from Hunt was killer

Siffas play the ball, he was on his feet and crowded as hell but that’s a 50:50

But the fundamental errors of the drop balls and **** offload just kept Qld down blues end all half really.

Shouldn’t have dropped the ball he did but if any other NSW player had been there to take run instead they’d have been in better position than him, trying to get across to middle.
Got punished for making the effort (well, and for bad ball security…)

Queenslands spine was absolutely immense.

It was one of Cherry-Evans finest hours, he had the game on puppet strings, any remaining critics he has (or those of us that just like to take the piss out of him) will have to shut their faces for a while, if he finished the year anywhere near this level then you could absolutely make a case for him to be the Roos number 7.
Hunt was tremendous playing the supporting role, switching between dummy half and a roving half. He’s having a career defining season and absolutely deserves to be in the running for the Dally M. I’ll never forget the way he yoinked that Cleary chip out of the air like Bart Simpson yoinking Kent Brockman’s danish. (Please see the image below for reference)
Ponga was the most dangerous player on the field whenever he had the ball and finally looked like the million dollar player that everyones been waiting to see.
Grant had the Blues guessing all night with his dummy half play, that turn and kick for that try at half time was a thing of beauty.
Deardon absolutely justified his selection with an incredible debut. Its a shame he’ll be dropped when Munster comes back but my god they need to keep him in camp every year.

Massive effort by Val to keep Cleary's drop out in the field of play. Huge game all round .

Hope he is tired on Friday night.
