No I don't believe Roberts was the only gay bloke in League. But who cares? A player's sexual preferences aren't anyone's business.

I'm unsure what the issue being exacerbated & reinforced is.. are gay players living in fear of coming out in 2022 because of Montoya, or do normal people just not feel the need to clarify their sexuality for everyone else? 16 x 30 man squads, we might have 480 gay blokes running around.

Ah, so simple it's genius. Just find a bloke who played for a decade that had a kid about halfway through, who then moved into coaching. Let him coach 6yrs in NZ before hiring him. Then sack him 3yrs later. He's without a job for 2yrs before signing with a rival where he spends a season & bit before quitting and rejoining Penrith. Meanwhile & this is crucial; that kid he had, he's gotta develop into the marquee halfback of the comp.

Then tadaah! Your long game pays off. You can funnel cash to a kid you're already paying a million to who didn't wanna leave anyway.

The issue that is being exacerbated is exactly what you're saying right now, by saying people should be indifferent and not care about this behavior it reinforces the idea to people in these communities that they aren't accepted, that they will be abused and harassed, so why should they bother?

So if you agree Roberts isn't the only one, name another? Name one other player who has felt comfortable going out in a public place romantically with a partner, facing the inevitable shitstorm of media and hate?

They aren't scared of Montoya but the indifference to it is why they're scared to be themselves and choose to hide.

That's an indictment on the Broncos & his management. That bloke obviously has serious problems handling money & likely a massive gambler to earn what he did for that long & have nothing. The sorts of losses, lack of home ownership, investments etc. would absolutely be noticeable & should have been addressed.

No question anymore why Milford went to ****. Good luck having your head in the game earning a million but still living pay day to pay day. Actually if someone's making that much but got ****all the NRL should be asking questions. He'd have to be a prime candidate to be susceptible to match fixers.

Why do you require to know all the gay players? Can't they just keep their private lives private? Should everyone disclose their sexual orientation upon signing an NRL contract?

I don't believe a gay player would receive a shitstorm of media & hate in 2022 mate. Matt Checcin didn't & he was a ref so already hated. Roberts wasn't shunned from the game 30yrs ago. I was young when Roberts came out but he's basically been a hero since.

If a gay player were to come out publicly fine, good on him. If they choose not to that's okay too. NRLW SoO a yr or 2 back ended with opposition players having a pash and no one gave a toss. I don't think being gay is the big taboo you make out.

Barring catastrophic injuries, there are three standout teams this year: the Panthers, Storm and Eels. If a team could come from nowhere and knock them off, then I think the Sharks are that team.
I’ve been so impressed with them in the opening five rounds. I rate them very close to a top-four team.

Penrith has secured the services of Ivan and Nathan Cleary until the end of 2027.
Craig Fitzgibbon has got them playing with tremendous spirit and they look like they’re really playing for their coach. Fitzy is one of the best guys I’ve ever met, and I’m so glad he’s having success early with the Sharks.
Cronulla have always been one of those hard-working, gritty and tough teams. They don’t like to give you an inch. But the emergence of Nicho Hynes, and his combination with Matt Moylan in the halves, has really added that bit of class to them.
I think one area of the Sharks that’s underrated is their wingers, Sione Katoa and Ronaldo Mulitalo. They just get their sets started so well. A couple of weeks ago against the Knights, they both ran for more than 200 metres. They’re just so hard to stop and it just lays a platform for their forwards retreating behind the ball.

I can’t wait for this game against Melbourne on Saturday night, which I think will be the game of the season so far. The Sharks will be able to tap into the intel from Dale Finucane and Hynes, which will really help. They’re the real dark horses of this year’s competition for mine.

The Panthers, Storm and Eels should be fighting out the title at the end of the season, but Craig Fitzgibbon’s Sharks are a huge dark horse this year.
