RFM probably the only guy coming off contract on decent money.
But that is a known thing, he already doesn't count towards next years cap which Kikau and Reed put them over apparently.

In theory they have 10 open roster spots for next season so NRL is looking at Reed and Kikau contracts and saying either
"8 min wage contracts plus these puts you over", or even worse could be "9 min wage contracts + even one of these puts you over"
If it is the first one and there isn't much in it they can be okay, if there is a decent amount of money they need to find they are gunna struggle.

Potentially they are in an absolute hole because even if they can move a couple guys like Thompson, TPJ, Flanju, Allen that just opens up another min wage contract and they have the likes of King, Dufty, Vaughan, Wakeham, RFM all who could arguably be important keeps who they likely can't afford to retain most, or maybe all of.
Plus I'd assume they are paying 100-250k towards each of the guys they move on which means 1-2 starting quality players worth of money not in their budget. If they are a decent amount off affording Reed and Kikau they are in danger of having around 20 players on minimum wage or close to it.

Compare that to our Signings Re-Signings thread where I spelt out how it is pretty viable we can keep almost everyone we want. And how a small sacrifice (like just letting Williams and Hunt both take up better offers) can help put us in a good spot for the year after even.

But who knows, could just be a number like 100k holding up both contracts and they can restructure* to make it work, or shift just someone like Allen by paying half his contract at new club.
*Maybe Jackson would drop wage to 500k if it came with another two or three years?

Think its a case of who get the axe first - Barrett or Madge.
Flanno will take whichever comes first
Agree, and in many respects he would be better off at the Tigers IMHO.
You think Flanno would want a HoF hovering over his team? I'd say he wouldn't lean towards that setup... but agree Flanno could do good things with the junior pathways. Maybe he'd get Morris back to lend a hand, they did pretty well last time

Flanno is one of the two roads I can see the Tigers taking when they inevitably punt Madge:

1. Flanno (Shane would love this, the guy has a hard on for full club rebuilds, depending how hands on he can get with Sheens above him imo)
2. Sheens just turning around and saying “**** it, I’ll do it myself.

I hope Flanagan gets the chance, he’s done his time now and i’d be happy for him to get another crack at coaching.
not sure Sheens would want to, so chances are more likely Flanno or Ciraldo.

I say Gus wouldn’t be looking over Flannos shoulder as much (except for compliance requirement maybe).

I wonder how long it's been since the Tigers were considered to be a grinding, defence-oriented team.

Maybe the days of Wayne Pearce.

the dogs cap is going to be a ****ing mess again in 2 years and its going to be for a further 3-5 years. so in saying that - although the tigers squad is absolute **** least he will have the funds to clean the joint out and recruit players he actually wants.

I can't recall the Tigers ever being known for grinding or defence in my time watching footy. Junior retired a little before I was old enough to know much.

Yeah I'm not even sure they were back then. Pearce was an exceptional defender though so thought his era would have been their best chance.

Fair enough, will agree to disagree. Me saying I thought Burton was more ready was in reference to the games I saw from both in the halves. As for who was more ready I think it’s a negligible difference either way & can see the argument for both, probably still would have said Burton.

End of the day I would have been stoked to sign either. Before the season started I would have said Burton would probably be slightly ahead on who I think would’ve been the best signing for us. Purely based on the fact I’d seen a very impressive kicking game from him where I’d seen mainly poor kicks from Hynes.

Kicking was/is my major issue with our squad.

As for the experienced half I’d gladly swap Moylan for Burton even though he has started well. I’ve never thought Moylan was a good signing for us though.
Fair call mate

Burton started in the halves for Penrith 6 times out of 26 games last year with only a few try assists

My point was I just don't think he's ready to be leading a team or playing in the halves in his current environment, both nicho and Burton both played in the halves growing up but nicho had that nrl experience in that ball playing capacity which gives him the edge

Burton gives himself no room, teams are rushing up on him and he hasn't adjusted in my opinion

did he play in the halves for Penrith? I haven't seen him play in the halves until he pulled on that dogs jersey and all ive seen is him not being able to adapt to the defense rushing him

Going to have to put on some size for that
You speak like you know what youre talking about yet didn’t even know Burton played in the halves his whole career and you thought the only time he played 6 was for dogs. Lol

Think before you talk
