With Gerald Bearle retiring another sharks premiership player into the wilderness.
Not many left now. šŸ˜¢

You could easily argue we defeated Storm at the height of their abilities in a Grand Final

watching the 2016 season from start...cant wait to get to GF again!

boy we miss barba. we was having a great season back then, hitting such form.
ennis, yes a big loss, but we have young brailey who is showing promise.

CT was much different back then in some of the round matches - not the Finals, a couple of games he actually took control and stood up!!!!!

wado was a different man back then. want that wado back!

we have the fundamentals of what we did in 16, just need an x factor fb - will kennedy just not setting world on fire. Maybe next year.

I'm interested to hear what you think the fundamentals we have now compare to 2016 because I think we're a million miles away.

our wingers have developed and are finishers - val was the only one that started to do similar to what ronaldo and sione do every game - finish off.
we have some forwards that are pushing - talakai, hunt, toby
we have a decent 9, a 6.

our bench showed promise.

what im trying to say we have a basis there, little fundamental of a squad. if you want to breakdown and pick the ***** out of it then ok we are million miles away then.
definitely need a FB that is explosive & x factor, pulls something out of nothing. and a couple of second rowers need to step up; including wado

our defence is a few galaxies away!!!! very different
thats one thing I would love to have back

like that last few games I watched - the 2016 defence was outstanding and very similar to the top teams this year. would love that back!

Not easy to just get that back though. Something drastic will have to change

If your D is where our's is at we don't have good foundations of a FG footy side let alone any premiership fundamentals. 40 odd missed tackles each week we were lucky the comp was reduced by 4 rounds another month we're probably 14th!

I canā€™t believe the Panthers played the way they did in that game. I still think theyā€™re an overall better side than the Storm. It was a failure of coaching IMO. Ivan needed to focus more on Smith. Smith is this storm. Like Ennis said, ā€œCut the head off the snakeā€.

how do you focus on smith? teams have been trying that for a decade + and it doesn't work. and even if u are somehow succesful they still have hughes, munster and pappa that can hurt you

you need to play the storm up the middle and be aggressive - our sharks showed the way years ago. panthers attack is excellent and all but from the start they were trying to spread the ball wide and while it almost worked a few times the storms scramble is too good for that to be successful early game

it worked later on with fatigue a factor but too late by then. they just need to defend better in that first half and play a bit more conservatively and they were in with a shot. that half time defect was just too much and the panthers errors really hurt them. maybe pressure and the occasion got to them more than they expected but many panthers fans also think Ivan got his bench a bit wrong and went away from what had worked well for them the past few months. the panthers scraped by against good opposition in their finals game but perhaps the writing was on the wall.

the Storm blew away the raiders in the first 20 mins the week before as well

Storm pressured Panthers and the young squad cracked under it. Lots of dumb and rushed passes.
Then by the time Panthers useful skill and fitness came into the game it was already lost. They needed to start way cleaner & safer and could have made a game of it with enough time to actually challenge.

im not sure penrith could have started any better, they got the ball off the original kick off and completed their set

i remember seeing a stat - penrith tackled in melbournes 20 - 26, melbourne 2 - yet melbourne were up 16-0

it was just a strange game
